Honouring my Maman’s inluence in my maison-basque as she recently passed away in France:
When I was young, I would claim that I would do everything in life but the work of my parents. My parents were retailers in Southwest France, with stores that offer anything you can think of in textiles for the home. As I was about to turn 50 and had to reinvent myself professionally and personally, I started maison-basque. Carrying my rolls of French fabrics over the years I thought many times of my Dad, who had passed away young, laughing his head off as I was embarking on a path I refused so drastically in my young years 😊. Nine years ago as my Mum turned 80, she came to visit me and my maison-basque. I remembered her arranging carefully and naturally various items in the shop , with her love for textiles and display. And if she could have spoken English, she would have gladly helped clients as she cherished human interactions.
Canada gave me the emotional and physical space I was craving for to grow as a person; now with humour and gratitude for what I received from my family I smile: the apple does not fall far from the tree. Merci Maman, Merci Papa! If I do not acknowledge comments, forgive me and thank you in advance for your caring thoughts...
Back in the Toronto showroom this week until mid Pm Saturday if maison-basque content is in your mind or heart 😊
