Dahlias! So many colors and varieties 💐. This flower works great for events and celebrating our most cherished moments. They are stunning!

Dahlias grow from a tuber, which requires extra work. They can be quite the diva 🙄. The tubers need to be cared for all year round. They need to be dug up, processed, stored, and have their eyes located; extra fertilizer and pest management are also necessary. Additionally, pruning shears should be cleaned between each plant, and cuts should only be made early in the morning or late in the evening. Warm or hot water is needed to help them take up water after cutting. They are not frost-tolerant, and high winds and heavy rain can destroy them, so staking or netting, as well as labelling, are required. Although they have a shorter vase life, they are gorgeous!

When you see dahlia stems for sale at a higher price point, remember you're buying them for a moment in your life. You buy them because they make you feel a certain way. You give them to someone for a special day to evoke the same feeling. Enjoy them while they last and appreciate all the work and love your local grower put into getting that dahlia to your bouquet.💐

The flower that everyone just needs to touch! 🌸 It doesn’t look real! This is the perfect dried flower. They tolerate glue, hot glue and wires being pushed through them. I love using them when making boutonnières and corsages. Most men could care less about wearing flowers on their jacket. I’ve heard many out right refuse to even consider wearing one. So I make them small and durable. Compromising wins the day! 💐

Another frost warning survived!!! 🥶 My morning walk spotted many perennials that produce beautiful flowers that only give me a 2-3 week window to use in bouquets. I love that from the start of my fresh bouquet season to the end, the bouquets are so different, with each week bringing something new and exciting. The pictures are just some of the earlier season bouquets.💐

Good morning! Do you know what made me sweat more than the heat wave this week?🥵 Two frost warnings!!!!! 🥶🥶 This is why I always wait to plant my annual gardens!

Today's flower is a perennial that can survive both crazy types of weather... Peonies! 🌸 My patch is really starting to fill out. Peonies take three years to establish enough to really get a good harvest. When making early-season bouquets, I love watching peonies open up. I keep them in the cooler until I am ready to use them. They go into a bouquet when they are just opening (puffy marshmallows) and they continue to open when the warm air surrounds them 💐

Fever few - this is the first year I realized they survive the winter and grow back bigger and bushier. I always grew them as annuals in my main annual gardens. Last year, I put some extras in my home beds and they all came back! I checked the main beds and found more popping through the ground. 🍿🥰💐

Let's get this weekend started with Snapdragons! 💐 Oh, the varieties! Ah, the colors! 😯 These are great bouquet flowers. The flowers start opening at the bottom first and continues blooming up the stem until the very top. I have a couple of new colors this year, I'm very excited to see them bloom.

My fresh flower season is from July - October 💐

Well this is exciting!

Rebel Researcher: The Unconventional Path to Discovery has officially been longlisted for the 2026 Whistler Independent Book Awards ().

What started as a collection of thoughts on unconventional academic paths, curiosity, failure, resilience, and discovery has grown into conversations with researchers, students, and creators who feel a little out of place in the traditional mold — and that’s exactly the point.

Huge thanks to everyone who has supported the book, shared it, read it, gifted it, or reached out with stories of their own research journeys.

Now onto the next round — print copy submitted and fingers crossed for the future shortlist announcement.

These beautiful tulips are just for me! Taking time to enjoy what I grow is important. Balancing time between my family, work and my small business is a hard thing to do. My focus this time of year is:

💐 planting seeds and transplanting seedling
💐moving trays of seedlings from the inside grow lights, to my little green house and then outside to harden off
💐planning and preparing my two gardens
💐maintaining my perennial beds
💐getting supplies ready for bouquet season
💐working extra hours at my job to ensure I have enough time to spend in the flower beds and making bouquets.
