As the scorching summer sun peaks, the earth shows signs of transformation. Lughnasadh is the old Irish name for this ancient festival. Lúnasa is the Irish word for August! Lammas is the Christianized name, meaning loaf mass.
This time marks the first harvest festival in the Wheel of the Year, a sacred cycle celebrated by various pagan and neopagan traditions. It is a time to honor the bountiful gifts of the land and acknowledge the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.

Ukrainians have a unique naming system for the months - each month is named after the nature of the month and August is Serpen’ Серпень - named after the serp серп - the sickle - used for harvesting grain. This is the beginning of the laborious harvest season 🌞🌾🌾🌾🌾🌾
There are so many magical rites associated with the harvest to ensure abundance through the long winter 🌙
