I’ve always believed that creativity finds its way when you let it work.
I’ve been fortunate to make a living doing something creative. I began my career as a display artist for a large national company, creating window displays, visual merchandising, and store design. Working out of head office, I learned about marketing, advertising, graphic design, and lighting an invaluable foundation that shaped everything that followed.
That path led me to Vancouver, where I was responsible for brand continuity across the province and supported store openings across the country.
Owning my own store was always a dream, and it became a reality when I opened Canada’s first freestanding Esprit store. From there, I went on to work with leading fashion brands, creating “shops within a shop” for major retailers.
Running parallel to this, I bought, renovated, and flipped real estate. Design and real estate were always intertwined.
Fluff began while working alongside my husband Rick on a development project, when I suggested the units would sell better if they were partially furnished. At the time, staging wasn’t common and furniture rentals simply didn’t exist. I thought, I can’t be the only one who needs this.
I decided to try, knowing it could be either a smart move or a mistake. More than 20 years and four major expansions later, I know it was the right decision.
Fluff has always been guided by a clear aesthetic: soft contemporary. Building the business required trust, resilience, and constant adaptation there was no model to follow.
The name Fluff comes from my days as a display artist: that final adjustment that makes everything feel just right.
And that’s exactly what we continue to do today.
