We’re honoured to share that SHIFT has been named a finalist in the 2026 Western Living Designers of the Year People’s Choice Awards, with our McKinley Project representing our submission this year.

Located along the lakefront in Kelowna, McKinley was designed as a calm, highly functional retreat for a young family who love to gather, host, and live fully in their home. The project reflects our ongoing focus on human-centred design - where clarity, flow, and material restraint come together to support everyday living in a meaningful way.

This project was also shaped through close collaboration with our extended team of design and trade partners, whose expertise and craft were integral to bringing the vision to life.

If you’ve followed our work or connected with this project, we would be incredibly grateful for your support.!

Voting for the Western Living People’s Choice Awards is now open and runs until July 16, 2026.

You can vote via the link in bio - we’ll also be sharing it directly on our stories!

Every vote genuinely supports our team and the collaborators who helped bring this project to life.

Thank you for being part of it.

Located in North Vancouver, Japandia Residence draws inspiration from shifting light and layered landscape, bringing together Japanese and West Coast influences to create a home grounded in calm, clarity, and restraint.

A new build and full furnishing project shaped over 1.5 years through a collaborative process between SHIFT, Robert Blaney Design (), and Hasler Homes (). Every space was designed with intention, with material continuity and natural light guiding the experience throughout.

The home was recently featured in Western Living and recognized with a HAVAN Award, reflecting the collective craftsmanship and care behind its ex*****on.

We're looking forward to sharing more from this project in the coming weeks, including a closer look at the design decisions, details, and collaborations that brought Japandia Residence to life.

Full story coming soon.

Design isn’t just about how a space looks, it’s about how it lives.

At The Point, every decision was driven by the realities of daily life: how a home adapts, expands, and quietly supports the people inside it. Flexibility wasn’t treated as an extra feature - it was embedded into the design from the beginning.

This sequence highlights a Murphy bed in motion, a simple transformation that reflects a much bigger idea: spaces should be able to shift with need, without losing their sense of cohesion. A room can be one thing during the day, and something entirely different when life requires it.

A well-designed space should feel like it was made for you.

Client Reflection| Seascape

One of the most meaningful parts of our work is the trust clients place in us throughout the design process - especially when they choose to be closely involved in shaping their home.

Seascape was a highly collaborative journey from the beginning. Working alongside Deborah and her family, our role was to listen deeply, translate ideas into design direction, and create a space that reflected both vision and lifestyle in a cohesive way.

What stood out in this process was the shared engagement at every stage, a design dialogue that allowed clarity, confidence, and creativity to unfold together. That level of collaboration is something we value deeply at SHIFT, and it’s often where the strongest outcomes take shape.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to have been part of bringing this home to life, and for the trust placed in our team along the way.

The Point, now seen in its fully photographed form.

This home was shaped by listening - to the land, to the light, and to the needs of the family who would live within it. A renovation grounded in clarity and durability, designed for a family of four (and three dogs), where every surface, material, and furnishing decision had to hold up to real, everyday life.

The fireplace remains the only original element of the home - everything else was carefully reimagined to create a space that feels calm, resilient, and deeply connected to its surroundings between forest and sea.

What you see here is the result of an incredible collaboration at every scale -from architecture and construction to the smallest considered details in furniture, texture, and object placement. Every contributor played a role in shaping how this home feels, not just how it looks.

We love the kind of relationships that evolve through repeat collaboration - where trust, shorthand, and shared design language continue to grow over time.

Michael () and the team at Minimal Cucine () have been an important part of several SHIFT projects, and McKinley is another extension of that ongoing partnership.

Working together across kitchens and millwork systems has always been rooted in the same approach: restraint, precision, and a focus on how the space will actually be lived in.

That consistency shows up most clearly in McKinley’s kitchen - a space defined by quiet detailing, seamless integration, and a strong material clarity that aligns with the overall language of the home.

We’re excited to share more of this project soon, following its upcoming publication feature, where the full home will be revealed in detail.

At SHIFT, every detail begins with intention.

We design with a focus on how a space will actually be lived in - how it supports daily routines, creates ease, and brings a sense of calm to complex environments. Nothing is arbitrary. From millwork to material selection to lighting composition, each decision is made to serve both function and feeling.

It’s in the details - the alignment of joinery, the layering of texture, the way light moves through a room - that design becomes personal. This is where intention is most visible, even if subtly so.

Seascape, a renovation at Charleson Tower, reflects this approach.

Designed for a cosmopolitan couple in the heart of the city, the project balances structure and softness, drawing from its urban context while creating a sense of calm elevation above it.

Patterned stone, polished metal, and warm natural tones come together to shape a home that feels grounded, intimate, and quietly refined.

The Point | Completed Residence

A closer look at a completed residence we’ve had the privilege of being part of, a renovation, furniture, and decor project shaped for a young family with two children and three dogs.

This home was designed around how daily life actually unfolds, balancing durability, comfort, and warmth with a calm, cohesive material and spatial language. Every layer was considered with intention, from layout through to furnishings and final styling.

What makes this project especially meaningful is the collaboration behind it. This was a true team effort across architecture, interior design, construction, styling, and craft - each partner contributing to the final outcome in a very real way.

We’re incredibly grateful to have worked alongside such a thoughtful group of collaborators, and to have been part of a project that reflects such alignment in vision and ex*****on.

We’re looking forward to sharing more from the final professional imagery soon, along with a deeper look into the completed spaces.

Client Reflection

The most meaningful part of what we do is the trust our clients place in us - especially when a project feels overwhelming or uncertain at the beginning.

We’re incredibly grateful for feedback like this, and for the opportunity to support our clients through such a significant part of their journey. It’s a reminder that good design is not just about outcomes, but about the experience along the way.
