At the Ottawa Valley Weavers and Spinners Guild Open House celebrating the 75th anniversary on June 22 we saw the fibre mosaic members had been creating over the winter. Each volunteer was assigned a square, sent a picture of the entire scene and a close up of the assigned square. The task was to reproduce the square in fibre 6 » X 61/2 »and submit it for assembly at the end of March. Each artisan worked separately, without seeing others’ work. Squares were all different, woven, felted, embroidered, knit, or combination of techniques, then were sewn together onto a backing. Beautiful project!!

My latest experiment in dyeing with plants in my garden and neighbourhood! On the left, two balls of brown from walnuts I picked up in the lane beside Country Depot in VKH, no mordant. Bottom right, yellow from willow leaves and branch tips, mordanted first with alum. Top right, the second ball of willow over dyed with sulfur cosmos flowers I harvested and dried in 2022. Even after 14 months the flowers made a strong dye bath.
