Here's why your renovation doesn't look like the inspiration photo, and it has nothing to do with your budget. 💡

Lighting is the single most underestimated element in interior design. Get it wrong and even the most beautiful materials will fall flat. Get it right and an ordinary space feels extraordinary.

These are the 6 layers of lighting I specify in every kitchen and bathroom design, and why each one matters. 👇

Ambient lighting — Your baseline. Recessed lights, flush mounts. Never rely on this alone.

Task lighting — Under-cabinet lights in the kitchen. Vanity lighting in the bathroom. Non-negotiable.

Accent lighting — Inside glass cabinets, toe kick lights, cove lighting. This is what creates atmosphere.

Pendant lighting — Over the island or dining table. Scale matters enormously. Too small = lost.

Natural light — Work with it, not against it. Material selections should always be viewed in your actual light.

Dimmer switches — Every single fixture. Non-negotiable. It costs almost nothing and changes everything

Designing a kosher kitchen is one of the most detailed and rewarding projects I take on. 🗝️

A well-designed kosher kitchen includes:
→ Two sinks — one for meat, one for dairy
→ Two dishwashers to prevent cross-contamination
→ Dual ovens and in some cases, separate cooktops
→ Thoughtful cabinetry for two complete sets of dishes and cookware
→ Clearly designated prep areas and refrigerator sections

Hardware is the jewelry of your kitchen, and just like jewelry, the wrong choice can throw off the whole look. 💍

Here's my guide to choosing the right hardware finish, and how to mix metals without it looking like a mistake. 👇

Polished Brass — Warm, luxurious, making a major comeback. Pairs beautifully with dark or white cabinets.
Matte Black — Modern, graphic, incredibly versatile. Works in almost every style.
Brushed Nickel — The classic safe choice. Timeless but can feel cold without warm materials nearby.
Unlacquered Brass — Develops a natural patina over time. For the design-forward homeowner who loves character.
Brushed Gold — Warmer than nickel, softer than polished brass. The sweet spot for refined luxury.
Mixing Metals — Yes, you can mix! Rule: anchor with one dominant finish, accent with one secondary. Never three.

Nobody talks about countertop edge profiles, but they can make or break the whole kitchen. 🔪

The wrong profile on a $10,000 quartz slab? It'll look like a builder-grade renovation from 2005.

The right one? It whispers custom without saying a word.

Here are the profiles I specify for my clients and the ones I steer them away from. 👇

1. Eased Edge - Clean, modern, timeless. The designer's go-to for a reason. The simplest and most popular edge profile. It features a straight, square line with slightly softened, rounded corners.
2. Beveled Edge - Subtle sophistication. Works in both traditional and modern kitchens.
3. Ogee Edge - Traditional charm when done right, outdated when overdone. Use sparingly.
4. The Waterfall Edge- creates a striking visual impact, especially when paired with large-format quartz or contrasting colors. It’s ideal for creating focal points in kitchen islands or bars.
5. The Mitered Edge- an edge assembled from two pieces to give a countertop with less weight the appearance of a much heavier one.
6. Bullnose Edge - Dated in most applications. I didn't post a photo of this, well.... because it's mainly used on Formica countertops and you should avoid it.
