Check out these incredible figure paintings made by one of our teens! She's been learning how to sketch in acrylics with limited colour palettes and she's been doing incredibly! 🔥

The goal of the exercise is for students to use paint to block out the silhouette of the subject. It allows them to see the big picture quickly, which is something that takes time when using graphite. This exercise develops a student's observational art skills as they do their best to capture the general idea of the pose and body type of the model before applying detail!

We've also been using animals for this exercise as well to expose students to a variety of different unusual shapes and subjects. We'll be posting them soon!

🌈☀️Now that our March Break camp is done (it went great, by the way) it's time to start thinking about how your kiddo plans on spending their summer!
Our Summer Art Camp earlybird registration is already underway so be sure to register soon to get the lowest possible price! Registration is per week. Full and half day options available. Ages 6-10 and 11-15!

At Palette Art School, we do our best to get students to work from life as much as possible. The ability to observe a real 3D subject in space and capture the same depth in a flattened image is best trained this way!

Working off a photo is also nice because it allows us to depict scenes that we don't really have the chance to witness firsthand otherwise but never forget to practice drawing from life as well!

This study of David was drawn from life by our student, Elma. The bust pictured is actually one of the many plaster cast sculptures we have in our school that we use to teach about value and shading!
