Crazy about kimchi? Check out , a new kimchi and Korean food maker cooking out of Kitchen Connect! We spoke with founder Seona Jeong the other week about her love of this incredible, flavour-packed ferment and her connection to it.
You can order a variety of different kimchi (radish kimchi, white kimchi, and signature sliced) through her Instagram and on the store!
Why did you decide to start My Pick?
I wanted to share the flavors of Korean kimchi and food with more people. Kimchi is such a healthy and delicious staple, full of natural probiotics, but I also love sharing other Korean foods—like desserts, cakes, and street food. There are so many amazing flavors, and I want to bring them to the local community.
Where did you learn how to make kimchi?
I learned from my mom. Growing up, kimchi was always a part of our meals, and I would help her make it. It’s a long and labor-intensive process, but it was a tradition in our home, and I’ve carried that with me.
What do you love about kimchi?
I love how versatile kimchi is—it can be enjoyed on its own or used in so many dishes. The taste constantly changes as it ferments, which makes it exciting to eat. Plus, its health benefits are amazing!
How can people order your products/learn more about your business?
People can order through my Instagram, and I’ll be joining the South Island FarmHub soon. I’m also working on a website. This summer, I plan to attend street markets, which will be a great way to connect with more people.
