Born out of pure necessity — and a little bit of studio chaos — Patina Pro is finally complete.
For years, all my weathering supplies lived in an open-top bin deep inside a cabinet. Every time I needed something, I had to pull the whole thing out, unload half of it, dig around, and then inevitably discover I’d already bought the same product twice because it was buried at the bottom. Not exactly a streamlined creative workflow. 😅
Then this old, beautifully battered cantilever toolbox crossed my path and it basically whispered, “I’m right for this job.” I couldn’t argue with that kind of vintage confidence.
The outside got a careful clean and a brushed-on clear coat to protect that glorious, hard-earned patina. The inside was stripped back, scrubbed, and treated to three coats of warm cream enamel so I could actually see everything (these old eyes appreciate the light colors!). Cork liners went in next to keep things quiet, tidy, and grippy.
Of course, a box like this needed a proper name — that’s just how my brain works. Patina Pro felt like something you might have found fully loaded in a 1950s auto-custom shop when pinstriping and hot rods ruled the streets.
Speaking of pinstriping… I’ll say it right here: I am definitely NOT a pinstriper. Huge respect to those who can do it properly. After my attempt at decorative striping, I naturally had to weather it back down — because a kit called Patina Pro absolutely needs patina of its own.
Final touch? A vegan leather wrap on the handle for comfort and style. And just like that, my messy bin became a mobile weathering command center.
Sometimes the best tools are the ones you rescue, repurpose, and make your own.
