Woolly Wreath Season is upon us and our kits are as popular as ever 🐑🌲

The pattern, from Churchmouse Yarns & Teas, is deceptively simple, using loop stitches and slubby yarn to create a wonderfully textural winter decoration. The pattern includes options for a small wreath, a large wreath, and a garland.

The Woolly Garland and Wreath is made in Slubby Mix from Hand Maiden and Fleece Artist, a lovely pure wool yarn with a unique “thick-and-thin” texture.

Our kits come with a paper or pdf pattern, and your choice of one to five skeins of Slubby Mix. Kits are available in either natural white or cedar green.

On Saturday, November 14th, we’ll be hosting another Fibre Fair at the Beehive Fibre Arts Centre.

Our vendors are travelling from all over BC and beyond, bringing with them local fibre, hand dyed yarns, handmade tools and accessories, and much more.

Say hello to our incredible new sample, God Is A Woman in Filcolana Mashdale and Tilia 🐏

This intricate design was inspired by Freja, the Norse goddess of love, magic, and beauty. The different textures in the pattern represent the different aspects of this deity, bringing a depth of meaning that is echoed by the rich character of the yarn used in its making.

The sweater is knit top-down using a saddle-shoulder construction and features a whimsical rolled neckline to finish it off.

God Is A Woman is a project we’d recommend for advanced knitters, but the result is well worth the effort it takes. We knit a size medium, using 12 balls of Mashdale in colourway 981-Driftwood and 6 balls of Tilia in colourway 336-Latte.

Earlier this year Filcolana announced the release of a brand new yarn, and we’ve been waiting excitedly to try it ever since.

Well Mashdale has finally arrived, and it has more than met our eager expectations.

Mashdale is spun from 75% Corriedale and 25% Masham wool. Corriedale fibres are prized for their next-to-skin softness, natural resilience, and bounce, while Masham fibres bring a gentle sheen and woolly texture to the blend.

During the production process, only the white Corriedale wool is dyed, while the Masham is left in its natural brown state. This process creates a palette of colourways with a beautiful heathered depth.

Today we were going to tell you all about our new sample but our Gail has rather stolen the show 💛

As soon as this sweater arrived back in store, we all knew exactly who we were going to ask to model it. The pattern is God Is A Woman by Filcolana in brand new Mashdale held with Tilia, and it’s the perfect fit for our lovely Gail.

Fall is well and truly here which means it's about time for something woolly on the needles. Here's a few of our favourite pattern releases from September that will be sure to keep you cosy this season!

1. The Panorama Sweater is a brilliant debut pattern from local Victoria designer .with.lauren that features classic rolling hems and a statement cable design inspired by the panoramas of British Columbia. The pattern is designed for Briggs & Little Woolen Mills Ltd. Heritage, a beautiful rustic yarn that's perfect for textured knits. We can't wait to see more patterns from Lauren in the future!

2. The Folk People Vest by is the cutest baby knit we've seen for a while (and yes, there's an adult version coming soon too)! The pattern is knit bottom up using intarsia and includes charts for three different characters - Cowboy, Mother Hen and Fisherman. We'd knit this in cosy Peruvian from Filcolana which has a wonderful selection of colourways to choose from.

3. The 504 Sweater by is another lovely pattern from a Canadian designer. This one features a gorgeous all-over colourwork design that's sure to keep you cosy through the winter. We'd knit this in Lettlopi from Ístex-Lopi, an Icelandic yarn that's a classic choice for colourwork sweaters.

4. The Tuff House Shoes by are the perfect knit to keep you warm from head to toe as the nights draw in. Peer Gynt from SandnesGarn is the perfect woolly choice for these quick felted slippers, which would make a lovely gift for the up coming holiday season.
