What's up guys, I'm still here!

I bought 2 boxes of random Christmas items last year and one box was full of these little dudes. This seemed like the logical thing to do with them.

I present to you: Yeti Wreath

Did you ever see anything so stupid and beautiful at the same time? (I mean, I do everyday when I look in the mirror... zing!) But really, it's magnificent and silly and I love it and I hope you do too!

I felt like playing with clay last night so I made these spooky earrings. πŸ’€πŸ¦‡

I still have a LOT to learn about clay. I know some insanely talented artists who make super cute clay earrings. After re-doing every part of these earings at least 5 times (one bat took more like 10 tries and I'm still not thrilled with him), I'm left in complete awe of how those ladies can manage to make such detailed, beautiful items with clay. It's so challenging!

Happy fall, my loves! Remember when I ice dyed some fabric a while ago? Well here's the finished product!

The fabric's composition was a ~mystery~. I got it in a remnant bin at the fabric store years ago and it never had a tag. I was hoping it had enough cotton in it to take the dye well but alas, it seems to be mostly synthetic and the dye came out super light. BUT that's okay!

I planned on making a hoodie dress from the get go, but the washed-out dye made me feel like this piece needed a little more va-va-voom. I gave it a raw-edge pocket and hood stripe and found this cute graphic to add to the front. I'm so, SO happy with how this came out! What do you think?

Here are some details from Violet's Harry Potter birthday party!

We made "floating" house crests and a birthday banner for Violet with the cricut. We decorated the table with a black tablecloth, gold star confetti, and gold place settings. Violet planned and made the white pillar candles all on her own. The sorting hat was made from an old witch hat with a few strategically placed safety pins. We printed a sorting quiz we found online and each kid was sorted into their Hogwarts house, then designed their own house badges from safety pins and cardstock.

We did a candy buffet with golden snitches (another easy cricut project), jelly slugs, acid pops, fizzing whizbees, and even Every Flavour Beans (one kid almost hurled after a rotten egg one so we pressed pause on that game). The steaming cotton candy cauldrons were SO cute.

We also had butterbeer (easy to make in a blender with cream soda, vanilla ice cream, and some butterscotch sauce) and we did a fun baby mandrake craft! The kids loved making their screechy, ugly mandrake babies. It was a super easy craft using small pots, some fake foliage, and air-dry clay.

This is my daughter, Violet, who might love crafts almost as much as me! She's having a Harry Potter themed birthday party this year and wanted to make Sorting Hat invitations. I helped her out with the cricut and she pasted the layers together and did all the writing.

We're hoping to do as much of this party in DIY format as possible. The first reason for this is, duh, we love crafting! The second reason is a little deeper.

The author of the HP books, JK Rowling, has used her very powerful and far-reaching voice to speak works of judgement against the transgender community and has not made an effort to better herself or change her narrative. While we love the characters and world she created in her books, we are deeply saddened and disappointed by her real-life views and attitude. For this reason we try not to further line the pockets of this woman, so we try to obtain our HP merch and books second hand, from the library, or by making it ourselves. This isn't always easy with two HP freaks in the house who want everything on the store shelves, but we try. And most importantly, we have conversations. Hard conversations about how we sometimes can't help but love the art that we love, but we can find a way to enjoy it while still being advocates for our trans friends and without supporting the artist's troubling views.

In this house we believe in magic, love, and standing up against fear and judgement. πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Hey friends! ✌

It's been a busy summer! I know I need to drop a couple temperature blanket updates but I wanted to show you this.

Let's talk about how this looks absolutely nothing like I originally envisioned. 😬

This was my first resin project. Several mistakes were made and a couple of them completely changed the outcome of this piece. The moons were originally going to be clear, but then I thought of how pretty a subtle pink hue would be... πŸ€”

I used cheap alcohol ink to tint my second layer of resin, and before curing, it was absolutely perfect. Just barely pinkish. So subtle. And then it cured to a bright, hot, Barbie pink. πŸ₯΄
Cool, OK. Yep.

The lace was never supposed to be there but I felt like it would help soften the harsh pink moons and add more interest and texture.

I forgot to flip my mold upside down before doing the 2nd set of moons so all the florals are upside down on one side. πŸ˜…

Drilling the holes in the moons at the proper angle so they hung properly was not as easy as you'd think. πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ”§

It's not perfect and it's not how I pictured it, but damn, it's pretty cute isn't it? I had to channel my inner Bob Ross and just accept the happy little accidents!
And trust me, this wasn't easy for an insane, control freak, type A, Virgo like me. πŸ’πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
We're learning and we're having fun and that's what this is all about. And now I have some cute decor for my girls' room!

Here's what my fabric looks like after being washed out. I really like the effect of ice dying! I'll definitely be trying this again. Now to wait for this to dry so I can get to cutting! βœ‚οΈ
