Bedroom Stories /. Soft Spaces

As maximizing square footage was a primary concern in this bedroom, I designed a custom king size bedframe and nightstands with integrated storage underneath. As the owner wanted this space to double as both their own primary bedroom and also to function for guests as an Airbnb space, we integrated locking mechanisms into half of the drawers so that they could leave their belongings there when they weren’t using the space. The sliding wardrobe also has one side lockable, and we left one side accessible for guests.

I incorporated a desk area that has concealed storage above for a wooden standing desk component, so the user can use the desk both seated and standing while during meetings.

A beautiful custom art piece by Eileen Kiyonaga Artworks features Black Tusk, and a muted palette and soft textiles keeps the space serene and calming, a perfect winter getaway.

Bedtime stories …

This 1546SF Whistler ski-in-ski out features four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sauna, a dining area, kitchen, living area and lounge area all packed into one concise little package.

To address storage concerns in such a small square footage, we designed custom built-in bedframes in both the primary bedrooms with storage underneath, as well as custom built-in wardrobes and desks to maximize all available space.

We chose a light and minimal palette to increase the visual area of the rooms, and utilized wide planks in contrast with slat details to incorporate both Scandinavian and Japanese design influences. The result is a clean, cozy cabin aesthetic that is natural and understated, yet sophisticated.

Checking in to say hey! There’s lots happening in the studio right now, from lobby development for the Rhodium apartment tower in Edmonton, to conceptual design for a Whistler family cabin and a Squamish family home, plus the start of a special new project in West Vancouver.

As always, I’m feeling grateful to be doing what I love, and excited to share design progress with all of you. Hope everyone is staying sane in the mad Christmas rush!
