I will then take the information away and begin sketching. At this stage in the process email communication is usually quite
intense as he work out the details. Once a sketch has been approved by the client we move on to the full size colour cartoon. There will an email at the pencil stage for review and if approved by the client it is inked and prepared for the cutting process. A client can expect a picture of progress every 2-3 days at this point. The cutting stage is the most labour intensive part of the process. Long days and heavy concentration. A picture will be sent of all the pieces cut and in their positions. Leading is when the piece actually begins to be built. Using lead cambe the glass is fitted into its designated space and surrounded by lead. Horseshoe nails and scrap lead hold things into place as others go in. Once this is done all the places where the lead intersect will be soldered together to create a palpable unit. Window putty is then used to cement the entire thing together and it will sit for 4-7 days depending on the weather. Less in dry and more in wet obvs. Once that is dry and the puttis trimmed back there is a lengthy and arduous cleaning process to ensure that the piece is presentable for the client. We will then arrange to come to the clients location and install the piece.
