It's FO (finished object) Friday, and we actually have something to share for once!
Heather crashed our Flax Sweater knit along (designed by Tin Can Knits) last year, and chose to knit her sweater from Sandnes Garn Line in a vibrant tomato red. But when she reached approximately 92% done with the sweater with only the body hem to knit (even the SLEEVES were knit holy cow!), on track to finish by Canada Day, she hesitated.
See, this yarn is a cotton, viscose, linen blend, all fibres that are known to stretch like crazy. And this sweater is a raglan-sleeved sweater with no seams to give it some stability. That means she was afraid it would stretch out badly with time and be unwearable.
So she stuffed it in a bag and ignored it for nearly a year.
But she found it again earlier this June, and decided that she might as well finish the silly thing. Might as well try it out, and if she had to rip it all out later? Well, at least she got some use of the thing, and it'd be off the needles.
But you know, her fear was unfounded. She's been practically living in the thing all summer, and it's held up really well! The decision to do the neck band after the body with a firm bindoff was a good idea, giving the body structure. The ribbing has stretched a bit, but considering that this sweater is meant to be a cozy oversized summer sweater, that's not much bother, and an easy fix on a top-down design.
And she even finished it in time for Canada Day! 🇨🇦
We'd highly recommend this yarn, in both the fi*****ng and the worsted weight (which is what Heather used here!) for any summer garments. It's holding up really well and is super breathable for warmer days and cooler rainy ones too!
