I decided to do Baroque portraits because I’m “broke” and it’s a play on words.
Also the Baroque period is (somewhat ironically) the most decadent (and wasteful) era in modern western times. Think Marie Antoinette. The whole point was to show off obscene wealth (or pretend you have obscene wealth) and boast to neighbours and secure a prosperous union through marriage. Invitation Balls, ritual greetings and courtship and the of course the over the top marriages; the pomp and extravagant clothing, tiny wine glasses, lace for days and powdered wigs. Ridiculous and somehow wonderful at the same time.
So, if you were wondering why, that’s my thought process behind it all. 😂

I have one 24x30” canvas left so I will do one more Baroque portrait.
