Colour can be quiet, too. 🤍

When someone mentions adding colour to a home, it’s easy to picture bright walls and bold, vibrant shades. But there’s a softer side of colour to explore.

Think dusty blues, muted greens, warm terracotta, buttery yellows and rich, earthy reds. Each brings its own personality to a space while still feeling calm, comfortable and timeless.

That’s one of my favourite things about designing with colour: finding the shade that makes a room feel a little more like the people who live in it.

So the next time you’re refreshing a space, consider bringing in a little colour. Start small with a cushion, artwork or curtains, or embrace it through paint or cabinetry. If bright colours aren’t your thing, a softer, more muted shade might be exactly what you’re looking for.

The studio… before it became the studio. 🤍

Now that we’re officially moved in and working from the new Marques Living Co. studio, I wanted to rewind a little and finally share the process of how we got here.

Welcome to Part 1 of our Studio Series: the very first walkthrough.

When I first got the keys, the space was technically updated and completely usable… it just didn’t feel like me yet.

The goal was to take what was here and create a space that felt warm, creative and collaborative, somewhere a team could work together, clients could come in and feel comfortable, and I could actually showcase the materials, textures and details that are such a huge part of the design process.

We needed a dedicated workstation for me, space for team members to work and collaborate, a conference room for client meetings, and LOTS of room for samples. (Because apparently an interior designer can never have enough samples. 😂)

And, of course, I wanted to bring some personality into it with colour, patterns, texture and all those little layers that make a space feel collected rather than simply “finished.”

You’ve already seen that we’re officially moved in, but there’s so much of the transformation I haven’t shared yet.

So I’m going back to the beginning. Over the next few posts, I’ll be sharing how we took this little space from before → renovation → Marques Living Co. studio.

Three years of Marques Living Co. 🤍

What started at a tiny desk in my bedroom with little ones often sitting on my lap, has grown into something I once only dreamed about.

Three years of creating, learning, growing, taking chances, and building a business alongside the life that matters most to me.

So incredibly grateful for every project, every client, every opportunity and every person who has been part of these first three years.

I fear that I am soooooooooooo easily influenced by beautiful interiors.

A few things currently taking up permanent residence in my brain:

café curtains that make a kitchen feel 100x more charming
dark, dramatic stone
built-ins on built-ins on built-ins
oversized art
banquette seating (I will find somewhere to put one)
warm walnut + creamy neutrals
tiny sconces everywhere
rooms that feel collected instead of decorated
and apparently… a pool wouldn’t hurt either 😂

The Utah Valley Parade of Homes absolutely did not help my obsession.

I came home with approximately 47 new ideas, 12 things I now need to use in a project, and a camera roll that will be influencing me for the foreseeable future.

I’ve always wanted a big life.

Not necessarily a life that looks impressive from the outside, but one that feels full.

I want to experience things. I want to see the world. I want to meet incredible people, create beautiful spaces, take chances, tell good stories and someday look back knowing I didn’t spend my life wondering what if?

And I think that’s part of why building a business has meant so much to me.

There is something incredibly powerful about being a woman and deciding to build something from the ground up. Taking an idea that existed only in your head and slowly turning it into something real.

It doesn’t happen in one giant leap.

It happens in hundreds of tiny decisions. Late nights. Risks. Mistakes. Sacrifices. Saying yes before you feel completely ready. Walking through one door and realizing it led to another you never even knew existed.

And somewhere along the way, you realize you aren’t just building a business.

You’re building a life.

A life that is bigger than the one you once imagined for yourself.

And I’m nowhere near done. 🤍
