🥨 Macrame Facts 🥨

The term macramé is taken from the word migramah. Do you know that it was an Arabian word coined by the Arabic weavers in 13th century? The meaning of migramah is fringe. The Arabic people will have decorative fringe located at the horses, camels and other items when they are in the Northern African hot desert to stay away from the flies.

Others believe that the term macramé is taken from the word makrama. The Turkish word means towel or napkin.

The earliest forms of macramé can be found in the carvings for Assyrians and Babylonian cultures. The costumes featured braiding and fringelike plaiting.
