There’s actually research behind this.
Multiple studies have found that office temperatures are historically based on outdated models designed around the metabolic rate of a 40-year-old man. Meanwhile, women generally have lower resting metabolic rates, meaning we feel cold faster and more intensely in the exact same environment.
One study published in PLOS One found women performed significantly better on math and verbal tasks in warmer office temperatures, while the decline in men’s performance in warmer temps was much smaller. In some cases, women answered up to 1.75% more math questions correctly PER 1°C increase in temperature.
Translation:
You’re not “lazy.”
You’re not “unfocused.”
Your body is literally trying to survive arctic air conditioning while replying to emails.
Honestly, women have been dragging the most random blankets into offices for YEARS trying to cope 😭
