I generally share spoons stories of others, and today I wanted the story of my spoon, my one and only spoon that comes with me almost everywhere, especially when I travel.
I have this rule/deal with myself: I shouldn’t keep the spoons I like, even the ones I really like, because then, I would start keeping far too many of them (you might have noticed I regularly come across some pretty awesome ones ;))
So I had found this just amazing spoon at an auction in the US, with a little squirrel on its handle 🐿️🥄
Now you must know, the squirrel is my spirit animal. Inside, I am a squirrel, I gather, I save, I prepare for later, make reserves, mostly with food - not really with things.
You should see our cabinets at home and our shelves in the basement, lined with jars of nuts and other goodies that I pick, or bring back from Greece (because I am half Greek), to last for the winter or the next months (I would have been a good hunter-gatherer :)
One of my very good friends always laughs at me for being at a party and suddenly pulling nuts out of my pocket in the middle of the night.
I carry nuts with me at all times - just in case.
Sometimes I find one or two in a jacket I haven’t worn since last season.
That kind of squirrel.
Sometimes I am even too good of a squirrel and things expire or go bad - but not too often.
Back to the squirrel spoon. Staying true to my rule of not keeping any amazing spoons for myself, I made it available on my website, waiting for the lucky one who would fall for it the way I had.
I wrote about it in my newsletter, mentioning it’s my spirit animal, and included other animal spoons for those who might recognize themselves in one (the elephant, cat, giraffe, penguin, duck — I have all those, check out my website under the Specialty items or ask me ;)).
I asked my boyfriend, who is an English speaker, to proofread my newsletter - like every yearly newsletter - and he told me: “You can’t sell the squirrel spoon. That’s your spirit animal.”
I said: “It is. But I don’t keep spoons I like.”
