Round beam or rectangular shelf? That’s the real question in supermarket lighting.

A round beam may look fine on paper, but retail shelves are not round. When beam shape doesn’t match shelf geometry, you get:

spill light
overlap
uneven shelf coverage
wasted energy
LiteHome LumiShield is designed to deliver light where products are displayed — helping retailers achieve more precise shelf illumination with less waste.

Light where it matters.

Retail lighting is a commercial decision, not just an electrical one. Yet in many stores, the same five mistakes repeat.
1️⃣ Uniform light across the whole store. When every area gets the same light, nothing stands out. Products lose hierarchy, and shoppers lose their visual path. Light should be directed where value is created — on shelves, displays and the products themselves. LumiShield precisely controls the beam, keeping light on the product plane, not wasted in the aisle or on the ceiling.
2️⃣ Lighting chosen too late in the project. When lighting comes last, flexibility disappears. Early planning means the layout, mounting height and optics can be optimised together. A trunking system like TrimLine makes this easier: install the track first, then add and reposition luminaires as the store concept evolves.
3️⃣ Comparing purchase price, not operating cost. A cheaper luminaire can cost more over its lifetime. The right comparison is total cost of ownership: energy use, maintenance and replacement. High-efficacy systems, such as Xtreme, reduce operating cost over years — not just the invoice on day one.
4️⃣ Luminaires that ignore the store's visual identity. Lighting shapes how a store feels. A discount store and a premium fashion store should not look the same. Different optics, colour temperatures and mounting styles create different identities. The right luminaire supports the brand — not fights it.
5️⃣ No flexibility when the product range changes. Retail is never static. Promotions move, categories change, layouts shift. Fixed lighting becomes wrong lighting. A modular approach — track-based, tool-free and repositionable — lets the store adapt without rewiring every campaign.
The common thread: retail lighting should be designed as a commercial asset, not installed as a default.
LiteHome focuses on one thing — retail space lighting. Our approach: light where it is needed, when it is needed, and no more.
Which of these five mistakes do you see most often in your projects?

Why should every shelf use the same light?

Retail shelves are never truly static. Widths change. Heights change. Layouts change. Promotions come and go.

But in many stores, the lighting remains fixed.

That’s where the problem begins.

A narrow shelf, a deeper display, a higher gondola, or a seasonal endcap may all require a different lighting approach. Traditional fixed optics can make store design more complicated — more SKUs, more planning, more complexity when layouts change.

Lumishield was developed for a different reality: retail spaces evolve, so lighting should be able to adapt too.

With Lumishield, retailers and lighting designers can move from fixed lighting concepts to a more flexible approach:

adapt to different shelf widths
adjust to changing shelf heights
respond to new merchandising layouts
reduce the need to replace the entire lighting concept when the store changes
One fixture. Multiple retail layouts. Because the best lighting is not only efficient and precise — it is also adaptable.

Comfortable light. Clearer shelves.

Retail aisles should help people see the merchandise, not force them to look through glare.

Your customers may not know what UGR means.
But they can feel it.
Two stores. Same products. Same layout.
Different lighting.
One creates glare.
The other creates visual comfort.
Customers may never notice the lighting fixture itself—but they notice whether browsing feels easy, comfortable, and enjoyable.
That’s why glare control is more than a lighting specification.
It’s part of the customer experience.
For retail lighting, don’t just ask:
💡 How bright is it?
Ask: How comfortable is it to shop under?
Low glare. Better visual comfort. Better retail experiences.
See the light, not the fixture.

Let customers notice the products—not the glare.
Step into a supermarket aisle where the light feels comfortable and your eyes naturally move towards the shelves. With UGR < 13 and precise rectangular light distribution, the LiteHome LumiShield low-glare system directs light where it is needed while reducing distracting brightness entering the customer’s field of view.
The result is clearer product visibility, greater visual comfort and a calmer, more refined retail environment.
Low glare is more than softer light—it allows lighting to serve the shopping experience.

Most linear lighting wastes 30% of its output before it reaches the product.

A frosted diffuser is the default. It hides the LEDs. But it scatters light omnidirectionally — up into the ceiling, across the aisle, into the shopper's eyes. Three things happen: (1) the merchandise stays dim, (2) background luminance rises and increases perceived glare, (3) designers compensate with higher wattage.

An optical lens inverts this. A PMMA lens captures each LED's output and redirects it — narrow beam to shelf, asymmetric across the rack, batwing for the aisle. Result: 15–20% more usable lumens on product, UGR 2–4 points lower, lower installed wattage for the same brightness.

For 100m of retail run: diffuser = 4,000 W, lens = 3,200 W. 800 W saved, every hour. Over 10 years ≈ €35,000 at €0.25/kWh — before HVAC and before the revenue gain from properly lit product.

A diffuser hides the light source. A lens controls it. The first is aesthetics. The second is financial. Most retailers only make the first one.
