Friday update: yesterday one of the caravans we contributed to left for El Cairo! It was a packed truck and so lovely to see all of you helped us put a little seed of the items in this big truck!! I passed out Valeriana tinctures to folks and to a caravan going to Buenaventura with Nidia Gongora as well as sharing out little servings of coca tea to keep us going strong!
Personally Im feeling like im unraveling slowly. My apartment complex learned itll be 4-6 months to repair soIm feeling very afloat in a sea of uncertainty. Ive been hearing so many stories from others who also have lost everything and tbh telling myself “st least I survived” isnt quite convincing my brain to not feel despair anymore. Being alone is hard, showering while being alone is hard, I realized Im terrified to go past a second story inside, every sound like above my head has me running scared, my little dog is velcroed to my side when Im at home base, my girl. And topping it off: Israeli army has arrived to Cali and arent helping but picking fights over people w Palestine patches or flags on their clothing.
But we are rolling forward.

Im posting a few pictures a day nothing more for a reason:
Many people are going to hot spots just to take photos when it explicitly has been requested not to.
Why?
To respect the workers and not clog up sites with Lucky Loos, which there are too many of and it’s making noise when silence is needed
To respect the dad that they are finding. This is not a sideshow. These are real people.

Wednesday Update:

Today we went to Homecenter, which opened today, to discover tbat they opened after raising prices 5 times the pricing. Items that cost $20 now cost almost $100, like a tent for 2 people which is outrageous and further abusive.

In the end we finally called and have created a spreadsheet of which hardware shops have which items and we managed to go to ONE today and get a ton (photo included of our haul with Otacha happily guarding!)

Tomorrow morning will be continuing down the list and preparing items to disperse to El Cairo a nearby pueblo that has received little to no resources or support.

Tomorrow afternoon we will rest before taking an night shift w rescue working. Thank you all for continual support and prayers.
Tonight we were able to visit with our friends and neighbors Wendy and Lucas and ran into Asia and man you really feel the distance of time seeing people you care about in these times!!!

Todays mid day update: walking from hardware store to hardware store most of which are closed to buy all yhe gloves glasses and maska they have. Its hot and aim exhausted after only a few hours. Prayers to the frontline workers. Nothing brings chills like the silence of them yelling for a response bc they think they heard someone call out. More later

Link in Bio!!
My name is Xiomara. I’m a Colombian adoptee who returned last year to live here. I am an artist, community organizer, singer and massage therapist. I live in Cali, Colombia in the Alameda neighborhood. Colombia just had a 7.7 Earthquake today and my apartment building is destroyed. I am raising funds to help with two things:

1. My recovery and support as my little dog and I navigate this disaster and recovering what we can.
2. Mutual aid support to purchase water, face masks and protective goggles for our rescue workers who are working diligently to pull people out of buildings. Funds will also be used with discretion to purchase items like arepas and empanadas to bring to workers and people who have lost everything also.

If it’s for my recovery please feel free to note that in your donation so that I know. I’ll try to update through recovery efforts. Thank you so much in advance for even $5 which helps buy 3 protective eye goggles. I will try to get more photos tomorrow, today was mostly spent in shock and not taking much photos or videos.

As of now the death toll is 111 and over 26 buildings solely in Cali have fallen. Many, many injuries including hospitals that had large pieces just fall. Thank you for keeping Colombia in your hearts.
