Post that we should have posted months ago. But better late than never. I am so excited that Marcela Granados has joined our team at JKB Interiors. She is so excellent at her craft and it has been very enjoyable working together. I travel a lot for business and having a great team is key to making anything work. We are so happy to have her in our ranks. Bienvenida Marcela!

Interior design is a slow process. Social Media is light speed. We've not been very active on socials for the past few years because there was too much work to do & very little photography happening.

For three years we've been working on a master project in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica with a great team of people.

This project has claimed our heart & soul & nearly my marriage. But now that the dust & mud & "obras grises" are finally settling, we have the first glimpse of a home.

As always, nearing the year's end in CR means running like crazy to meet deadlines before the holidays arrive & with it an ostentatious yet much needed pause on the job site. We begrudgingly walk away from our work for a solid two weeks because the entire country shuts down & productivity is simply impossible. That means the final quarter of the year is always rough in our industry. But we persist.

I look forward to sharing more of the dream we've been building inside Reserva Conchal as we find more spaces coming into a state of completion & taking on a life of their own.

Our clients, several dozen families from all over the country & around the world have brought their own unique vision to this project making it distinctly their own yet harmoniously biophylic & unmistakeably Costa Rican. Thank you to our clients, friends and followers for the opportunity to share this labor of love.

The sunlit shower just hit so pretty today. Ok. I know I'm crushing on this bathroom a little too hard. But it occurred to me that in the previous post it looked like a space inspired by mocha mousse, which I really did not enjoy as the Pantone color of the year

Lately we've been experiencing a bit too much of ubiquitousness in the color department. In our latest multi unit project, 90% of our clients sent me Pinterest boards filled with the same pictures. Most of them AI generated sepia toned neutrals. While the spa aesthetic had its moment, leaning too far in to a trend will get you nowhere but a very dated space inspired 5 years.

In this bathroom, we did a little color blocking to work with the green of the bedroom, but also pull some of the dreamy blues from the marble countertop.

The space really speaks to me and that is what it's all about.

And please don't buy into a sepia washed color palette! Mocha mousse will be passé before the year's end. Mark my words. 💚💙🤍

Good morning friends and family. It's been a while since we've checked in & shared some of our latest work. If you only know us from socials, you might think we've been napping. Alas, we have been grinding hard for a long time in some amazing, large scale pre construction new build projects.

Our primary focus in 2024 was designing new homes in Sanara @ Reserva Conchal in Guanacaste. We were also blessed with some lovely furniture package installs for new condominiums in Jaco & some fun design work in Key Largo, Florida.

This lovely bathroom was put together by our talented team & after seeing it for the first time today, I am so pleased. This is my bathroom in Hermosa Palms. We built this home in 2007 & remodeled this bathroom in 2020 with a new tub installation & it was wonky.
But now we've come full circle and have this gorgeous multifunctional space. All we need is a custom teak bench to have the perfect spot to shave, give myself a home pedi, or wash the poodle.

This old home in Costa Rica has been a bit of an oversight since moving the family to Florida 3 years ago. Although we still come here on a monthly basis we are busy working & not living normal day to day family life. But this is where our family started & where we've spent most of our days. It is worn & a bit cluttered in places. But every nook & cranny is filled with love & memories. When I arrived yesterday after a long, stressful day of travel this house gave me a hug as soon as I walked in the door. It also gave me a nudge of encouragement on the purpose of timeless & purposeful interior design. When you get it right it fills you with joy like a hug from an old friend.

2024 was an incredible journey for us at JKB. We welcomed our newest resident interior design assistant, Maggie Skidmore to the team.

We were blessed to complete stunning projects in the Florida Keys, Jacó, Playa Hermosa, Esterillos & Los Sueños Resort (photos pending!).

And we were honored to assume the role of interior development for Sanara, Reserva Conchal's newest project of bespoke single family homes.

Sanara has been a unique opportunity for our team to collaborate with architects & engineers from diverse backgrounds as we develop the interior packages for 30 distinct home owners.

Now under construction, we look forward to bringing the design concepts to life in 2025 as well as getting a head start on Phase II & resuming our signature remodeling projects in Los Sueños Resort.
