👇 It takes me a month to complete a painting,
I prepare very detailed sketches, because as an architect I starve for precision. The sketch usually takes a week.
And as an artist, I pay very close attention to colors, to capture the right mood.
I usually start with the lights and shadows, and play with their contrast. For the undercoat I use permanent watercolors that don’t reactivate after they are dry,
Painting the lights and shadows involves Blue + Yellow
and takes 3-4 days. Getting those right is what gives depth and color realism to my paintings.
Some commented that:
“I create my own coloring pages” and that “I paint too inside the lines”
I have to disagree,because my aim is precision and fidelity to the memories I want to capture. Painting these memories allows me to relive them, and through this process they become stronger.
The coloring consumes the rest of the two weeks, with many details and color adjustments, final outlines, until it’s perfect and I’m proud of the result.

I’ve been wandering around Europe with my sketchbook, capturing little urban scenes of precious moments I wanted to remember.

I painted the “Pobednik” statue at Kalemegdan park, Belgrade woth watercolors👇
This will serve as the study painting for a larger format commission I just received!
I used ultramarine blue and pure yellow for the lights and shadows.
I painted the colors on top, to get that realistic light and color look.

After finishing the undercoat with the lights and shadows it’s time to color the painting and bring it to life..
Layer by layer, painting the real colors and building the contrast that will give depth.
As always, distant items are fading and are less detailed.

Having completed the value study and detailed sketch, it is time to establish the mood of this Parisian painting.

In response to your request to select a medium, I have decided to present a challenge in which the painting will be executed proportionally to the votes.

* 59% Watercolour to establish the mood and colour.
* 28% Watercolour Pastels for vibrant colours and texture.
* 13% Colouring Pencils for the details.

In this video I paint the lights and shadows, constructing the initial contrast as an underpainting which will set the mood.
