Looking for alternative woods 👀

North American hickory is known to be the most durable wood with the best properties for making drumsticks. However, it travels a long way. 🚢

As part of our latest research project, we collaborated with the Institute for Musical Instrument Making to examine, in particular, the durability of a variety of woods. We had to acknowledge that there is no wood of comparable density to hickory in Europe. 🪵

Partnering with our other research collaborators at TU Dresden and , we explored the potential of various laminated woods for drumstick production. In the long term, this may allow us to find an equivalent but more sustainable alternative to hickory. 🥢

This reel is an excerpt from our in-depth YouTube video. There, we provide fascinating insights into our joint research work and show how modern research
supports the development of our drumsticks. Link in bio. 🎥

Before we start turning the drumsticks, we exactly weigh out the raw wooden piles and classify them into 16 different weight categories. 🪵 ⚖️
Each stick model is assigned to one of these and always produced from this exact weight category. That’s how we can provide an unique consistency – stick by stick, pair by pair.

Besides it allows us to technically produce every single model in a different weight class, if required.

Last week we featured an interview with . Today we’re taking a closer look at his signature drumsticks. 🥢

They combine a rather thick diameter, a long shoulder and a fairly light weight. “Control and feel are crucial for me. And I can achieve that with these sticks,” says Noah. With the barrel tip, he produces very defined cymbal accents. 🥁

Have you tried Noah’s signature sticks yet?

🥁 “Control and feel are crucial.”

For Noah Fürbringer, choosing the right drumstick is closely linked to his personal sound.

In this interview, he talks about why his signature model suits his playing style perfectly, why control is so important to him, and how he develops his own sound.

This reel offers a brief glimpse – you can find the full interview on YouTube.
