With SolaBulb you can turn existing practical fixtures into controlled light sources.⚡️

Director and cinematographer Wiki Feng added the SolaBulb to his kit for exactly those moments — slipped into a lampshade, dropped into an existing fixture, gone. As he puts it: "I love to use that spotlight method of hitting the dinner table and creating a soft bounce on the talent around it."

No railway. No crossing. Just three Astera fixtures and a window. 🚦

Gaffer Petr Hons shared this BTS from a shoot where the train never actually had to appear. That “real” flashing red signal? Two HydraPanels hidden behind the window, running a slow pulse. A QuikPunch adds movement outside, while a TitanTube with a Light Sock keeps the frame soft enough to sell the illusion.

“If you’re just dealing with pockets of light and color, you let the darkness take care of the rest. I needed something that was nimble, full spectrum, remote-controlled, and lightweight — and that’s what I love about Astera. You can clip them or hide them anywhere,” shares cinematographer Ashley Barron ACS about shaping the visuals of Netflix’s "How to Get to Heaven from Belfast" using Astera Titan Tubes, HydraPanels, and LunaBulbs.

Working alongside director Michael Lennox and gaffer Adam Slater, Barron used Astera fixtures throughout the series to build lighting transitions, rich color contrasts, and flexible 360° setups across locations like the Knockdara Grand Hotel and the woodland cabin.

Happy International Lighting Day! ⚡️🎉

Today, we’re celebrating the people who shape the way we see light: on screen, at events, and beyond.

At EuroCine last week, we asked a few DPs and gaffers what light means to them. Watch the video to hear their thoughts, then tell us in the comments: what does light mean to you? 👀

A special thank you to:
