The sewing machine was chosen this year as the tool of choice at Værktøj exhibition during 3 days of design.
It holds a special place in my heart, as it is one of the most beloved tools in my studio.
A needle, a hole, and a thread can transform a flat piece of fabric into a three dimensional chair or bag. Something useful, lasting, and full of character.
The simple thread holds it all together.
Each stitch leaves a mark. Once the material is pierced, there is no undo button.
This is something I know well from my work with leather. In this lamp, the material is tightly stitched in a circular motion, steady, consistent, and precise.
One piece of thread, two pieces of paper, and somehow it becomes a light. A form. An ambiance.
All the works in this exhibition moved me. I loved seeing the works in progress, and most of all, the conversations that took place.
