Last night, we welcomed Jay Osgerby to our Copenhagen showroom for an introduction to the latest additions to the Plan Collection by Barber Osgerby.

Joined by friends and familiar faces, Jay shared the thinking behind the Plan Cantilever Chair and Plan Studio Chair, from their defining forms to the details that make each design work.

Both chairs build on the visual language of the Plan Collection, exploring new ways of sitting and working while retaining the simplicity and lightness at the heart of the original design.

At Fredericia: A Chronicle of Danish Design, a dedicated corner brings together some of the contemporary designers working with the brand. The Plan Collection by Barber Osgerby, Jasper Morrison’s Jota Sofa, Cecilie Manz’s Post Collection and Maria Bruun’s Pioneer Stools share the space with Hugo Passos’ Gomo Collection.

Distinct in character and expression, the pieces reflect an ongoing dialogue with new generations of designers, while remaining grounded in a deep knowledge of materials, craftsmanship and furniture-making. Together, they reveal how these principles continue to take on new forms through the work of today’s designers.

Designed alongside the OX Chair, the Queen Chair is a softer interpretation of Hans J. Wegner’s sculptural design language. With ample armrests and a high, majestic back, the Queen Chair is striking but balanced and practical.⁠

Every Queen Chair is upholstered in our workshop in Svendborg, Denmark, where, through traditional techniques, skilled artisans continue to shape each piece. It is through pieces such as the Queen chair where the reflection of enduring craftsmanship and attention to detail defining Wegner’s original design and Fredericia’s approach to furniture making come together. ⁠

With the OX Chair, Hans J. Wegner explored a more expressive approach to furniture design. A distinctive silhouette, inspired by the form of an ox, the sculptural presence requires a highly demanding upholstery process.⁠

The chair challenged the understated aesthetics of Danish design at the time. Today, it stands as Wegner’s demonstration of his signature organic, artistic approach to furniture and his desire to redefine traditional seating. ⁠

The modular system designed by Maria Bruun, Head of Design for Fredericia: A Chronicle of Danish Design, draws inspiration from the work of Mogens Koch and Børge Mogensen, referencing their principles of functional simplicity, adaptable construction and explicit design details. ⁠

Within the podiums, the integrated drawers encourage visitors to explore the stories behind the exhibited pieces, from archival images of the company to historical crafting tools.⁠

Trisse can be turned, stacked, rolled, and moved - challenging conventional furniture types.⁠

The clarity in Trisse’s construction stems from Nanna Ditzel’s background as a carpenter. The form, without visible joints, has a flexibility implicit in its proportions, balance, and scale rather than mechanics. ⁠

A collection developed over almost 40 years, Trisse is today represented in museums and institutions, having gained the status of modern icon. ⁠

In a fifth-floor Casa-Bottega in Milan, Letizia Caramia and Morten Thuesen, OLDER Studio founders, live and work surrounded by design.

Their approach to design is organic, shaped by lived experiences and daily needs. It is also another form of research: using things, paying close attention to them and understanding what makes an object worth keeping.

A Nanna Ditzel Trisse stool, gifted for their son’s baptism, sits alongside their vinyl collection; their own CAROLINO serving wagon came from a very practical need; and Børge Mogensen’s J39 Chair is admired for the precision and restraint hidden within its simple form.

In continuous production since 1947, the J39 Mogensen Chair or 'The People's Chair' remains one of Danish design's most iconic chairs. ⁠
⁠
English designer Jasper Morrison expressed it best on the occasion of the chair's 75th anniversary in 2022: 'J39 is one of my favourite Mogensen designs. What I love about it is its subtle reworking of the classic 18th-century English country chair, with rush seats and cylindrical legs at all four corners. I love the economy of a design which wastes nothing – not even the past. Sustainable design at its best.'⁠

New Hands, Shared Knowledge.

At Fredericia, craft continues through the meeting of experience and new expertise–not as nostalgia, but as an active practice. Every day in the workshop, newly-trained upholsterer Sarah and her colleagues create furniture with both tradition and the future in mind, ensuring the craft is carried forward to the next generation.

For Sarah, craft and durability are inseparable: “I like knowing that the furniture we create is designed to last. Sometimes I wonder where it will end up, and who will sit in it decades from now.”
