Hans Bølling made serious work out of not being serious.
Strit, 1953. Turned teak and maple, fully articulated - legs, arms, torso, and head all movable. Every configuration a different mood. Same architect who made the Mermaid, different register entirely.
What expression would you give it?

He started at his grandfather's lathe.
Nikolaj Klitgaard's relationship with wood began in childhood, shaping objects by hand in his grandfather's carpentry workshop. His particular mastery of the lathe has remained at the core of his practice - each piece carrying the character that only comes from someone who understands what the material will and won't do.
If you own a Klitgaard piece, can you see the lathe work in it - and what does that mean to you?

Bjarke Ingels doesn't do small projects.
Panda, 2019. Turned maple and walnut, rotating upper body, movable limbs - every joint considered. The same architect who reshapes skylines, applied to 20 centimeters of wood.
Big or small - which size do you go for?

Some shapes take decades to feel obvious.

He had no cabinetmaker's background - and that was exactly the point. Finn Juhl (1912-1989) entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts as an architect, approaching design from an artist's perspective where form, proportion and expression came first. That unconventional thinking helped position Denmark as a leader in modern interiors - and took his work from furniture and objects all the way to the Trusteeship Council Chamber at the United Nations in New York. Clarity, craftsmanship, and a deep commitment to the quality of everyday life.

Copenhagen, 1959. A cop stopped rush hour traffic for a family of ducks.
A journalist happened to be there. The photo ran in the papers - and Hans Bølling turned it into a permanent form. Duck & Duckling, handturned solid teak, movable heads. One mother. As many ducklings as you need.
How many are in your family?
