Very important and large Bronze and ivory statue from leavasseur. Shepherdess. H.53 cm. Henri Louis Levasseur was a French sculptor best known for his Art Nouveau depictions of historic figures, mythological figures such as Diana (1900), and religious themes. His sculptures are composed in a realistic manner, often including painstakingly detailed, draped fabrics that appear to be captured mid-movement. Born on April 16, 1853 in Paris, France, Levasseur went on to study with Auguste Dumont, Gabriel Jules Thomas, and E. Planche. Today, Levasseur’s works are in the collections of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow, the Grohmann Museum at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and the Columbia Museum of Art at the University of South Carolina, among others. He died in 1934 in Paris, France.

Very impressive French Figural Bronze Wall Sconces, Signed By Victor Paillard
Victor paillard 1805-1886 consider An important and prolific artist, Victor Paillard learned the art of the chiseleur working for the bronzier Deniére as a youth.

He opened his studio casting works in bronze in the 1830’s, first appearing at the Exposition des Products de l’Industrie in 1839. He was a member of the jury at the Exposition Universelle in 1855 and was made a Chevalier of the Legion d’Honeur. During this period he was known to employ nearly one hundred craftsmen. In 1874 he became mayor of Paris’s third district.

His work is generally foundry marked with a tiny cold stamp "V.P." beneath a crown, these usually in obscure or non-distracting places, and sometimes hidden inside of elements of more complex pieces

It is covered with silk fabric from the period of Napoleon III. In great condition.

Once known as Maison Clavier, Maison Bouhon Frères was already a well-established and reputable firm by 1900, known for their fine bronze and wrought iron fire accessories. Their premise was located at 12 rue Debelleyme, in the Marais in Paris.
