You donāt always need to replace everything to transform a space. Sometimes you just need to understand what isnāt working. šæ
When I looked at this collection of plants Downtown, there were a few things I noticed straight away.
First, several of the plants are still sitting inside small plastic nursery pots. As a plant grows, its roots need enough space to develop. Iād move these properly into the larger pottery pots, with fresh soil and more room for the root system to grow.
Second: pruning. āļø
There are old, damaged and dead leaves that need removing. Regular pruning doesnāt just make the plants look cleaner and healthier; it also helps encourage healthy new growth.
One of the plants has already died, so Iād replace it with a healthy yucca, adding structure and keeping the overall planting cohesive.
Then Iād add purple Portulaca around the base of every pot. š
This brings one consistent pop of colour across the whole area, covers the exposed soil and gives the pots a much more finished, landscaped appearance. Portulaca can also use moisture from the soil, although good drainage and the correct watering routine are still essential.
And thatās the point of this kind of transformation.
Same pots.
Mostly the same plants.
Just better decisions and ongoing maintenance.
Good landscaping isnāt always about ripping everything out and starting again. Sometimes itās knowing what to keep, what needs attention and what small additions will make the whole space feel healthier, fuller and more intentional.
