Views of Healing Architectures: Designing Spaces of Care, the exhibition on display at Fundació Enric Miralles until 10 April 2026.

The exhibition presents the results of the Spring 2025 Advanced Studio at the Yale School of Architecture, led by Benedetta Tagliabue and Can Vu Bui. Alongside the students’ proposals, the exhibition traces the history and philosophy of the Maggie’s Centres, highlighting Centro Kálida Sant Pau designed by EMBT Architects and the ongoing work of Fundació Kálida, while also looking ahead to the future of Vall d’Hebron Hospital.

The studio explored the design of a new Centro Kálida in Barcelona, adjacent to Hospital Vall d’Hebron, investigating how architecture can foster both emotional and physical support for people affected by cancer. The projects invite reflection on how architecture can nurture well-being, transforming spaces into places of comfort, healing, and belonging.

Open Monday to Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Free entrance.

We are happy to announce that Benedetta Tagliabue - EMBT Architects have been included in the AD100 list for 2026
EMBT Architects’ recent projects explore how architecture can foster well-being, transforming public spaces and buildings into places of welcome, connection, and renewal.
The Centro Direzionale Metro Station in Naples, Il Parco del Mare in Rimini, the installation The Architecture of Virtual Water for the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale, the renewal of Century Square in Shanghai, and the new campus of the Fudan School of Management all reflect a vision in which nature and the built environment interweave.
In 2026, the studio will continue to explore the ideas of renaturalisation, reuse, and human-centred design in projects in development across Spain, Italy, France, China, and Albania.

Work in progress –Taipei, Taiwan – Xinyi Children Welfare Housing Project

Our proposal is taking advantage of the existing little parcs, big trees and green areas, adding small public areas to complete and emphasize the idea of a continuous garden.
The urban arrangement becomes a sequence of small parcs, commercial areas, “public interiors,” courtyards and working areas connected by enlarged walkways, like promenades with trees.

Our buildings proposal is based on the relationship with the green surrounding areas, creating a sequence between green and buildings. We believe that the new buildings in the area can adjust the scale by fragmenting the volumes into smaller fragments to respond better to the human scale. The position of the new buildings and the relationship between them is an important factor in the spatial definition of the site.

The public art on the public areas adds another layer to the richness of mix activities and uses by adding elements of identity that make the neighbours enjoy their usual environment.

Our buildings will be part of the garden; they are like “big trees” that will provide shade, shelter and spaces for community relationship and activities.

They are shaped with curves at the corners to smooth the volumes and transform them into more organic elements of the landscape.

The social housing building is a lot more than housing. It is a combination of public exterior areas, shops, working spaces, houses and community spaces for all kinds of functions like library, public amenities, yoga classes, cooking lessons and kindergarten.

The building is a complex, alive and joyful community of people and activities that is transforming the whole neighbourhood.

The façade is a clean, sinuous surface wrapping the apartments and playing with different variations of openings—balconies, windows and terraces—to transform the buildings into living elements.

The green areas are not only at the lower street levels; terraces of the public spaces, balconies and rooftops are also part of the landscape definition of the project.

The Shenzhen Conservatory of Music, is designed as an international and innovative campus that blends musical education with the cultural and natural landscape of Shenzhen. It aims to attract top musical talent while creating an open and inclusive urban cultural landmark.

The design uses the metaphor of a musical composition and collage, integrating architecture with nature. Buildings, textures, and spaces are arranged like musical notes, forming a spatial symphony that connects music with the identity of the city.

Instead of a single monumental structure, the campus adopts a fragmented yet interconnected layout. A transformed flood channel becomes a green axis that unifies the site, linking teaching, residential, and public spaces. This creates a flexible environment that balances movement, interaction, and reflection, while promoting community engagement.

We would like to invite you to an exhibition in homage to Enric Miralles, marking 25 years since the inception of the Scottish Parliament project. Enric Miralles: Designing Scotland’s Parliament brings to light, for the first time in Scotland, many of the original design materials that shaped this landmark building.

Through hand-drawn sketches, photo collages, site studies, and competition boards, the exhibition reveals the expressive and poetic design process behind one of the most significant public buildings of the 21st century. It offers a rare insight into Miralles’ vision—one that Benedetta Tagliabue and the EMBT team carried forward with care and commitment after his untimely passing in 2000.

Alongside these archival works, the exhibition also features a curated selection of EMBT’s more recent public projects, continuing the studio’s dedication to architecture that responds to cultural, social, and urban contexts.

The exhibition will be open to the public in the Scottish Parliament’s Main Hall from 31 July to 30 October.

RENEWAL OF CENTURY SQUARE IN EAST NANJING ROAD
Shanghai, China.

The design for the very significant “Century Square” at East Nanjing Road in Shanghai has always been related to shows and events, positioned in a strategic connection between
“Peoples Square” and “The Bund”, and characterized by its special ambience of incredible night lights and commercial presentations.

Our project gives an homage to the origin of the word Shanghai, which means ‘upon the sea’. We convert this very key space into a new urban living room, inspired in colours and shape by the sea and the harbour. The new paving represents an undersea world. This pavement becomes illuminated at night by glittering lights.

We decide to renature this city centre, introducing green spaces to improve the urban microclimate in consideration of the ecological consciousness. Lights and audio visuals enhance this new green open space at night.

Today marks 25 years since Enric Miralles left us.
We remember him with deep gratitude and admiration. We continue walking with Enric in every idea, in the way we draw, build, and imagine.

CAMPUS OF FUDAN UNIVERSITY - SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT, Shangai

Fudan is a part of a network of universities and their respective buildings located in Shanghai. Is also a very special and unique university with an extensive history and a unique character.
Besides the main Campus, there are two new components.
These components are not closely located; they are separate pieces, so in order to establish the connection the buildings must convey the identity of Fudan and contemporary life.

The footprint of the campus will be an essential element in generating an urban mixture. We strongly believe that the Central Green spine between the blocks of the campus will play a major role in creating the mixture.

The existing structure of the area does not have the capacity to generate any public life; the new Fudan campus will create a new core in the new community.
The Project has two main external landscapes. Both areas are treated differently. The central Boulevard is more urban and has big trees and water features. The internal zone introduces vegetation in between the buildings and mixes with the interior.

The master plan for this new zone defines the density and heights.
The new buildings must have a relationship to the surrounding buildings, the volumes must relate to the urban context, and be adjustable to the different functions.

We modified the volumes of the master plan within the given specification to create that mixture.
The buildings become part of a network of connections, instead of forming borders.

Fudan University is one of the oldest and most selective universities in China.
