¨Baby Alpaca… A “Rare” Fiber…
An Elite Fiber¨
Alpacas are often called “Gold of the Andes" because of its extraordinary fiber, which is internationally well known as the one of the most luxurious fibers in the world. This resilient fiber is not only strong, but is incredibly soft, warm, light weighted, and durable. Excellent for travelling, comfortable, water-resistant, retains its shape without stretching. Alpaca Fiber is almost as silk, in strength. Alpaca Fiber, in its cellular composition, is as human hair, - its core is made of air-filled cells, and this contributes significantly to its high insulating performance and high standards of strength. Comparing with sheep wool, the number of individual fibers by cm2 is considerably minor. This explains why, people who are allergic to sheep wool, are not allergic to Alpaca fibers. Alpaca has “guard hair” which makes a secondary coat. These fibers provide the typical Alpaca soft and silky touch and feel. Alpaca’s quality is measured in microns; ranges are between 19-32 microns, and Baby Alpaca fibers´ are between 20 and 22 microns. These are considered the finest. Baby Alpaca is only obtained in the first shear, and only of certain parts of the animal. Alpaca's Unique Qualities
Alpaca is comparable to Cashmere, when talking of comfort, and diameter of fiber. However, Alpaca does not itch. As Cashmere, Alpaca is incredibly soft and possesses extraordinary shine and texture. Alpaca Fiber has many unique qualities that make it far superior to other fibers or wools:
Alpaca contains microscopic air pockets that provide excellent thermal insulation making it amazingly warm. Seven times more warm than wool. Alpaca Fiber is so strong and durable, that the resulting apparel is long-lasting, water resistant, and water repellent. Alpaca maintains its appearance over time and pills less than Cashmere. Alpaca is much more resistant to wrinkles and traction than other fiber or wool. Alpaca is lighter in weight than any other wools. Alpaca's natural colors range is from white to black, with up to 32 shades of gray or brown in between. Having the greatest range of natural colors in the world. Reason why we can offer the ECO Line. Alpaca has minimum quantity of lanolin, making it nearly hypo-allergenic unlike most wools. Alpaca has great humidity absorption qualities. Alpacas are rare and only found in a few areas in the world - while goats and sheep, that are the sources of Cashmere, are commonly and plentiful all around the world. The most important thing is that during in the shaving process, the animal does not suffer damage!!! Child slavery is not involved in none of the production processes!!! For all these reasons, all our products are considered SUSTAINABLE!!! Alpaca Varieties
There are two varieties of Alpaca:
Suri and Huacaya. Suri has long, straight hair, which is silky and exceptionally lustrous. Huacaya has relatively short fiber which is dense, curly and voluminous. Both, Suri and Huacaya fibers, are used to produce a large variety of woven and knitted fabrics. Huacaya are more numerous than Suri, representing 93% of the Alpaca population in Peru and Bolivia, in South America. Alpaca Fiber has exceptional brilliance and extraordinary texture. Its great fineness that only reach a few microns, contribute to its luxuriously silky touch and feel. The Alpaca fineness varies between 19 and 24 microns. Alpaca, one of the world’s most luxurious fabrics, is a jewel amid all the synthetic fibers and harsh materials found in our everyday lives. Softer than cashmere, and available in a wide array of colors, alpaca serves as a natural thermostat by using microscopic air pockets to trap body heat in cooler temperatures and to release heat in warmer weather. Alpaca wool is harvested from the alpaca, a New World Camelid that is native to the high, remote Andean plains of South America. The South American Camelid family also includes Guanacos, Llamas and Vicuñas. With an estimate of only three million alpacas worldwide, some 90% of which are found in the southern regions of Peru, the alpaca is one of the rarest species on Earth. As the principle material of Incan textiles for thousands of years, alpaca wool, was called “the gold of the Andes,” has always been highly sought after. Today, the world of high fashion cherishes alpaca not only for its scarcity but also for its natural attributes: its fineness, durability, and hypoallergenic and lightweight qualities. Alpaca comes in 24 shades of naturally occurring fiber as alpacas range from white through all shades of grey and brown to black. The animals are docile and friendly, easy to keep and fun to farm. ECO Line
Eco Alpaca Fiber is a natural hair fiber made of protein; thus, when disposed, naturally biodegrades into the earth, within a short period of time. Not as synthetic or man-made fibers, which take a very long time to biodegrade, making negative impact in our environment. We care for our relationship with nature and with each other. We want the world to know that Alpaca is a natural option that not only feels good next to your skin, but also for its thermal properties, fineness, softness and durability. The products offered under our ECO Line have been elaborated not using dyeing yarn; therefore, using only natural colors. We are sure you will find this line as inspiring as we do. Our philosophy is to use products that are NATURAL, RENEWABLE, BIODEGRADABLE and ETHICAL. And now…. it´s time to enjoy your “Baby Alpaca Collection” Throw!!! With love,
