The smallest things in a room are the ones your hands notice first.✨
Designers call hardware the “jewelry of the home” for a reason. A handle, a rail or a latch is the part of a room you touch every day, so you remember it. Here is how to start:
Start where hands go. Door handles, drawer pulls, stair rails and towel bars come first. Weight and shape matter as much as finish.
Choose one metal and let it age. Unlacquered brass is chosen because it develops a patina. Pick one finish family and repeat it through the house.
Give one piece a story. A sculpted door pull, a hand-shaped sofa foot or a looping banister can each be the unexpected detail. Keep everything around it quiet.
Finish the last 5%. Designer vent grilles and socket covers are often forgotten. In a matching finish they make the room look finished.
Change one thing first. New hardware on existing cabinets or doors is the lowest-effort upgrade, and it changes how the whole room reads.
