Ever wondered why it’s called Tarte Tatin? 🍎🥧
The story goes back to 19th-century France, to two sisters – Stéphanie and Caroline Tatin – who ran a small hotel. One busy day, Stéphanie accidentally started cooking apples in butter and sugar without putting pastry underneath. To save the dessert, she quickly placed the dough on top and baked it anyway.
When she flipped it over, the result was golden, caramelized perfection. Guests loved it, the recipe spread, and the upside-down apple tart became famous under the sisters’ name: Tarte Tatin.
Sometimes the best classics are happy accidents!
