The first release is Smilodon populator, the largest and most robust known representative of the genus Smilodon and one of the most formidable predators of South America’s Pleistocene megafauna.

Developed exclusively for Dinosauria Creatures, this replica is the result of extensive palaeontological, anatomical and morphometric research. Its powerful musculature, robust forelimbs, heavily developed neck and iconic upper canines have been reconstructed with particular attention to scientific accuracy and exhibition-quality presentation.

We are pleased to present this remarkable replica depicting Nanaimoteuthis haggarti preying upon Megapterygius wakayamaensis, expertly sculpted by Dino and Dog miniatures
This dynamic composition offers a compelling interpretation of the possible ecological interactions that may have occurred between large predatory cephalopods and marine reptiles within ancient oceanic ecosystems.
Although such behaviour cannot be confirmed directly from the fossil record, the scene is inspired by current palaeontological interpretations of Nanaimoteuthis as a powerful marine predator capable of feeding on relatively large and hard-bodied prey.

With an estimated length of up to 12 metres, this legendary prehistoric crocodyliform has been reconstructed in exceptional detail to capture the presence and power of one of the great riverine predators of the Cretaceous.

We are not exaggerating when we say that we have spent nearly a year developing this magnificent Smilodon populator model. It has been a long and carefully coordinated process, involving many hours of joint work from the entire team.

Our reconstruction is based on the morphometric proportions of the Uruguayan skull MNHN-P 957, an almost complete cranium from Limetas Creek, Uruguay. Cranial proportions, canine morphology, zygomatic expansion and mandibular robustness were used as the anatomical foundation for the model.

Using this data, together with comparative anatomy from extant large felids, we reconstructed the soft tissues, musculature, body volume and pelage density, aiming for the most faithful and natural representation possible.

From the first graphite-style conceptual sketches to the final high-resolution digital sculpture, this model has been developed with a strong focus on fossil evidence, anatomical accuracy and the powerful proportions of Smilodon populator.

After a great deal of work, we are finally able to announce that this diorama will soon be available, initially at 1:15 scale, although we are also considering smaller scale options.

We would like to sincerely thank studio for the outstanding work carried out in the digital sculpting of these specimens. His talent has allowed us to capture, with great realism and sensitivity, how this species may have appeared in life.

After many tests, sketches and discussions to define the scenography together with Agustín, it is now Javi Peces peces turn to bring the entire scene to life through painting.
