Not what you expect to find on our Mediterranean beaches!.

Normally residing in northern Europe and eastern North America, and rarely venturing farther south than Brittany, France, this wanderer has made its way into the Mediterranean.

She's being closely monitored by scientists and environmental experts concerned with her health and behaviour. Gibraltar’s Environmental Protection and Research Unit has been tracking her movements, aware of how unusual her presence is in these waters, and have given her the name 'Carmela'.
