It’s been a hot minute since I did an introduction… like 4 years maybe 😅
So since then, the biggest change is of course becoming a mama to my hurricane child, Sonny Delight, and wow how the path of motherhood flips your world upside down! Living abroad with no “village,” and both parents self-employed, means routine is basically a myth in our house right now.
But the zest for life he brings to each day, his unwavering perseverance on seeking out mischief, his ability to speak mallorquín — it makes it all worth the sleepless nights and never-ending days.
I am proud of growing up in London, Hackney specifically — bear in mind I’m talking 90s Hackney, very different to today’s hipster heaven! It gave me a foundation I wouldn’t change for anything, and even though it’s changed so much, it’s where I had the most magical childhood and unhinged teenage years!
I left Hackney at 21 to join the yachting industry with absolutely no idea what it was — this was before made the industry famous. Eternally grateful to 21-year-old me for jumping in at the deep end: sailing across the Atlantic, snorkelling in the Galapagos, even scuba diving with Paris Hilton (that’s hot). And of course, meeting my partner Craig — before leaving it all behind for a “normal” life and “normal” job: upholstery.
These days that’s Studio Sonny — bespoke upholstery and soft furnishings, made by hand here in Mallorca.
When I’m not in the studio I’m wandering through markets, currently on the hunt for the perfect teapot. I could spend hours sorting antique and vintage fabrics — cotton, linen, wool, silk — which then go into my dye pots with plant material, coaxing out nature’s pigments. While I wait, there’s always a herbal tea and a slice of cake to satisfy my sweet tooth.
That’s me in a nutshell — how I came to be where I am today.
Love, H 🌞🧡
