1911 – The Fabrique de Meubles de Coulombs (Philippe Hurel) is founded by Maurice Gouget.

1937 – Inspired by a piece by Leleu, the manufactory produces modernist furniture created by Loir for the Pavillon Ile de France at the Paris World’s Fair.

1948 – After marrying the only daughter of Maurice Gouget, Pierre Hurel succeeds his father-in-law as company director.

1968 – Philippe Hurel, son of P

ierre, takes his first steps in the family business. Two years later he takes over the running of the company.

1971 – Launch of Upsilon, the first collection of contemporary furniture.

1989 – Opening of the first Paris showroom, located in the 12th arrondissement a stone’s throw from the fashionable Faubourg Saint Antoine.

2001 – Inauguration of the new Philippe Hurel showroom on the rue du Bouloi, close to the Palais Royal.

2005 – Maxime Hurel, son of Philippe, begins his apprenticeship in the family business. He would eventually take over the running of the company 7 years later.

2006 – Construction of the new manufactory on the historical site. That same year the prestigious VIA label was awarded to a Philippe Hurel creation, the Tyrol stool. Later recipients would include the Ray desk in 2008 and the Saskia table in 2009.

2007 – Maison Philippe Hurel is awarded the French label “Entreprise
du Patrimoine Vivant” (Living Heritage Company label)

2009 – Publication of the art reference work Philippe Hurel: So Français !

2011 – Celebration of the centenary of Maison Philippe Hurel.

2013 – Opening of showrooms in Shanghai and Singapore.

You don’t truly understand a piece until you’ve seen it being made.

What a special day spent at our workshop in France with a group of London-based designers.

From raw materials to finished pieces, there’s nothing quite like experiencing craftsmanship up close — understanding the time, precision, and skill behind every detail.

Le bois travaillé à la gouge

La gouge est un outil traditionnel d’ébénisterie qui permet de sculpter la surface du bois en y creusant de légers sillons. Réalisé à la main, ce travail donne au bois une texture vivante, qui capte la lumière et révèle toute la beauté de la matière.

Très présent dans le mobilier du XXe siècle, ce savoir-faire ancien est devenu l’une des signatures de la Maison PHILIPPE HUREL.

Depuis 1911, notre maison familiale d’ébénisterie française perpétue ce geste artisanal, où chaque pièce est travaillée une à une par nos artisans.

Cette technique est notamment utilisée ici pour la table basse MANTA.

Venez la découvrir, parmi d’autres pièces, lors de la Design Week de Milan. Nous exposerons plusieurs créations au sein du collectif French Living in Motion, à l’occasion de dans le quartier de Brera.

Wood worked with a gouge

The gouge is a traditional cabinetmaking tool used to sculpt the surface of wood by carving gentle grooves into it. Crafted entirely by hand, this technique gives the wood a lively texture that catches the light and reveals the full beauty of the material.

Widely present in 20th-century furniture, this traditional craftsmanship has become one of the signatures of the PHILIPPE HUREL House.

Since 1911, our family-run French cabinetmaking house has preserved this artisanal gesture, with each piece carefully worked by hand by our craftsmen.

This technique is notably used here for the MANTA coffee table.

Come and discover it, along with other pieces, during Milan Design Week. We will present several creations as part of the French Living in Motion collective, on the occasion of in the Brera district.

L’opportunité de découvrir de nouvelles pièces, comme le fauteuil Yumi dessiné par ou le lampadaire Victoria, conçu en collaboration avec .

À cette occasion, le collectif French Living in Motion vous invite à découvrir dans le quartier de Brera.

Pensée comme un parcours scénographique par Jakob+MacFarlane, l’exposition réunit 53 créations françaises, illustrant la diversité des savoir-faire, dont les pièces de Philippe Hurel.

For the third consecutive year, we will be taking part in the Milano Design Week on the occasion of the Design Défilé.

An opportunity to discover new pieces, such as the Yumi armchair designed by , or the Victoria floor lamp, created in collaboration with .

On this occasion, the collective French Living in Motion invites you to discover in the Brera district.

Conceived as a scenographic journey by Jakob+MacFarlane, the exhibition brings together 53 French creations, showcasing the diversity of craftsmanship, including pieces by Philippe Hurel.

Table basse MANTA

Philippe Hurel lui-même n’aurait sans aucun doute pas renié cette table basse à la fois belle et fonctionnelle, simple et parfaitement équilibrée.

Elle reprend avec élégance tous les codes de la Maison : ses petits pieds en fonderie de bronze, de laiton ou d’aluminium, son large plateau principal en chêne travaillé à la gouge, ainsi que ses plateaux secondaires en laque brillante ou en cuir piqué sellier.

Par la combinaison des matières et des couleurs, par son dessin simple et évident, par sa fonctionnalité — qui permet de l’agrandir ou de la réduire selon l’envie — et par sa très haute qualité d’exécution, tout est là : vous êtes bien chez PHILIPPE HUREL.

Philippe Hurel himself would undoubtedly not have disowned this coffee table, both beautiful and functional, simple and perfectly balanced.

It elegantly brings together all the signature codes of the House: its small cast bronze, brass or aluminium legs, its large main top in gouge-worked oak, and its secondary tops in glossy lacquer or saddle-stitched leather.
