🇬🇧 Is Linen only for summer?

No.

In a laboratory study comparing four textile samples under identical conditions, the 100% Linen sample ranked second for heat retention. Combined with its ventilation and breathability, this moderate insulation creates a balance between freshness and thermal comfort.

By adapting the yarn, fabric weight, knit or weave, Linen can be designed for different seasons, from lightweight summer shirts to warmer knits, throws and bed linen.

European Linen: naturally suited to every season.

🇫🇷 Le Lin est-il uniquement réservé à l’été ?

Non.

Lors d’une étude en laboratoire comparant quatre échantillons textiles dans des conditions identiques, l’échantillon 100 % Lin s’est classé deuxième en matière de rétention de chaleur. Associée à ses propriétés de ventilation et de respirabilité, cette isolation modérée offre un équilibre entre fraîcheur et confort thermique.

En adaptant le fil, le poids, la maille ou l’armure textile, le Lin peut ainsi accompagner les différentes saisons, de la chemise légère aux mailles, plaids et linge de lit plus enveloppants.

Le Lin européen : naturellement adapté à toutes les saisons.

🇬🇧 The life of European Flax: retting continues

After pulling, the Flax stalks remain in the field, arranged in swaths, where retting gradually loosens the fibres from the woody parts of the stem.

The swaths are turned to expose the side that was in contact with the soil, promoting more even retting and helping the straw to dry. As the process progresses, the stalks change from yellow to brown and grey tones.

Retting is considered optimal when the colour is even and the fibres can be separated easily. A precise balance, carefully monitored in every field, to release the fibres without damaging them.

🇫🇷 La vie du Lin européen : le rouissage se poursuit

Après l’arrachage, les pailles de Lin restent disposées en andains dans le champ, où le rouissage permet progressivement de libérer les fibres des parties ligneuses de la tige.

Les andains sont retournés afin d’exposer la face restée au contact du sol, de favoriser un rouissage plus homogène et de faciliter le séchage. Au fil du processus, les pailles passent du jaune à des nuances brunes et grisées.

Le rouissage est jugé optimal lorsque leur couleur est homogène et que les fibres peuvent être extraites facilement. Un équilibre précis, suivi attentivement dans chaque parcelle, pour libérer les fibres sans les endommager.

[ ] 🇬🇧 The life of Flax: retting begins

Once pulled, the Flax stalks are laid in swaths across the field. Exposed to dew, rain and summer temperatures, they begin retting, the first natural stage in transforming the plant into fibre.

With the help of soil micro-organisms, the pectic materials surrounding the fibre bundles gradually loosen. Little by little, the stalks change colour and the fibres prepare to be mechanically extracted.

A process guided by nature and closely monitored in the field.

Après l’arrachage, les tiges de Lin sont déposées en andains dans le champ. Sous l’effet de la rosée, de la pluie et des températures estivales, commence alors le rouissage, première étape naturelle de transformation de la plante en fibre.

Grâce à l’action des micro-organismes du sol, les ciments qui entourent les faisceaux de fibres se désagrègent progressivement. Peu à peu, les pailles changent de couleur et les fibres se préparent à être extraites mécaniquement.

Un processus guidé par la nature et attentivement suivi au champ.

[ ] 🇬🇧 Long before Linen established itself in prestigious circles, it already embodied family heritage and was treasured as a precious heirloom.

Across ancient civilisations, owning Linen reflected wealth, refinement and social status. It was carefully preserved, passed down through generations and often formed part of a family's most valuable possessions.

Whether included in a bride's dowry or treasured within the household, Linen represented far more than a textile. It embodied heritage, continuity and the values passed from one generation to the next.

A timeless reminder that European Linen has always been woven into family traditions.

🇫🇷 Bien avant que le Lin ne s’impose dans des univers de prestige, il incarnait déjà la transmission et constituait un véritable trésor familial.

Dans plusieurs civilisations anciennes, posséder du Lin témoignait de richesse, de raffinement et de statut social. Soigneusement conservé, transmis de génération en génération, il faisait partie des biens les plus précieux d'une famille.

Présent dans les dots et les patrimoines familiaux, le Lin était bien plus qu'une matière textile. Il incarnait l'héritage, la transmission et les valeurs que l'on souhaitait faire perdurer.

Une histoire qui rappelle que le Lin européen est, depuis toujours, intimement lié aux traditions de famille.
