Pierre Guariche (1926-1995) created a series of Avant-garde chairs for Steiner, including the Tonneau chair, recognizable by its large hole in the center of the plywood. This model, very little produced, is extremely rare today. A few months later, in association with Michel Mortier and Joseph-André Motte, within the A.R.P., the Amsterdam chair was created, with a smaller hole, one of Steiner's bestsellers.
