Working, May, and the CIA đŸ„ž

This past month was 99% work and 1% play. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to that elusive work-life balance, especially while preparing for market season. Here’s a quick May roundup:

1 - Throwing, trimming, firing, and unloading on repeat at the studio.

2 - Seems like not everyone worked very hard.

3 - 🎂 Birthday drinks in Cannes and seeing my little soldiers at the restaurant for the first time!

4 - Followed by the first potters’ market of the season in Vence.

I have to tell you this story: one client kept the pieces of her broken mug for six months, hoping she’d find me again this year so she could replace the one her daughter broke. Seriously đŸ„č

5 - The actor who plays Saul Berenson in Homeland was there! I didn’t see him interacting with anyone, so I left him alone. But it was pretty cool to recognize the director of the CIA in real life 😂 And if you haven’t watched Homeland yet, you absolutely should.

June is already underway, and there’s still plenty to do before I can enjoy a little break.

How was your May? Did anything unexpectedly wholesome happen to you this month?

It doesn’t always happen, but this time the final result came out exactly as I imagined 🐍 Swipe through the challenging process behind this vase, inspired by the story of Medusa.

I shared before that it all began with a book about her myth. What stayed with me was the idea that the snakes forced upon Medusa by Athena were a burden, something cruel she had to carry. So I imagined a vessel where she could, for a moment, take them off and place them inside. Though being the vicious creatures they are, they refused to stay put.

Only the inside and the marbled blue snakes are glazed, creating a contrast against the matte surface of the vase. I never glaze with a brush, so naturally I decided this was the time to start (🙄). I cursed myself a few times along the way LOL.

And the best part is that this piece unexpectedly led to a second one. I made three snakes, used only two here, and couldn’t bring myself to reclaim the last one. So I thought I needed another vase.

I’ll share that second piece in a later post.

Life during April đŸ§˜đŸ»â€â™€ïž

1- Remember back in February when I read a book about Medusa’s story? What stood out to me was that the snakes were mean to her. So I wanted to create a vessel where she could throw them in and rest.

2- Brunch in Nice. Always looking for new places, so drop your recommendations in the comments!

3- Renewing my kiln shelves’ wash is apparently a big enough deal to make it into the monthly recap lol

4- I know she’s adorable, but it took me a solid month to train her to stay calm with clients coming and going. When people call her over or bother her trying to get a good photo, it confuses her. Plus, it disturbs my work. Had to put up a sign at the studio đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïž

5- I should buy a steamer for my backdrop. Or I could just bring the one from home, since I never use it anyway. Joking
I found out I can smooth the fabric with my heat gun. The fashion industry didn’t see me coming, take that Tim Gunn (pun intended)! (Did anyone get this reference??)

6- Probably the biggest thing that happened this month, work-wise.

7- Proud of how many boxes I can fit into the tiniest car.

8- Cleaned my yoga mat at home and left it out on the floor to dry. Found it like this.

What was your highlight this month?

This 750ml commissioned olive oil bottle has joined its forever home in Cannes đŸ«’

It began with a simple request in the shop: a piece more than twice the size of the 150 bottles I had just finished. What could have felt like a repetitive task quickly became something with deeper meaning.

As we spoke, the story unfolded. They import their olive oil from Greece, carefully chosen and deeply valued in their home. The intention wasn’t just to have a larger bottle, but a vessel worthy of what it holds. Something intentional, subtle, modern and organic.

That conversation and trust changed everything. Together, we defined the details and then let the piece unfold. Hearing that it “exceeded expectations” made every step of the process meaningful.

I created a second version alongside it, as it often happens with commissions like this, with a slightly different silhouette. It is now available at the shop in Vallauris and will soon be online.
