The Buchan area in NE Scotland is quite flat with only one prominent hill that can be seen for miles. Mormond hill.
It has the only 2 hillside figures in Scotland,
a horse and a stag, both made from the local white quartz.
The Stag was created in 1870 to mark the marriage of a local laird.
The Stag has proudly stood guard over the fertile fields of Buchan for over 150 years.
He has seen many changes over this time.
From horse ploughing to tractor ploughing
From oil pipelines to wind turbines
From landline phone network to satellite broadband.
It’s the broadband mast on top of the hill allows me to share this post!

One constant over the years would be sheep grazing.
Sadly, the use of wool has dipped in and out of fashion over the years, which is a shame because it is such a wonderful, clever, adaptable fibre with so many uses and benefits.

This photo shows the view of the stag from our farm.

We have decided to share our passion for wool and create Stag’a Brae Fibres.
We have previously sold our raw fleece wholesale but we are now going to sell direct to the public through markets & online.
We have had some wool processed at a mill & some processed here on the farm & we have been experimenting with dyeing fibre from locally grown plants so that has been exciting!
We chose the name Stag’s Brae Fibres because most of our fields are on a slope, known as a brae in Scotland & the Stag on Mormond Hill is always keeping an eye on what we are doing! I hope he will approve!
