We collect and curate all that inspires us…
Hold regular exhibitions of Fine and Applied Arts. Nourish and delight the artist and creative child with inspirational books and independent magazines. Serve simple, delicious food from our kitchen and of course good coffee. Have a garden where the sun can shine all day, designed and planted by Sarah Price. Host workshops with painters, print-makers, textile artists, writers and musicians. Organise life drawing days for artists to do their practice - with no tutor but the occasional masterclass.

John says,

‘My working life continues as a combination of opera and ballet production and costume design and painting drawing and printmaking.

The works in this show are mainly from the last two years. Now with more studio time it is a great pleasure to discover and use the huge archive of production images as a source for new work .
That said, my preoccupation continues with still life and the world of nature in the form of birds trees and landscape.’

John was born in Glasgow in 1948 and studied at the Glasgow School of Art. He has worked with the world’s major opera and ballet houses for over 50 years and has received several Olivier Production Awards and individual nominations.

Exhibition continues until 30 January.

🦇 FILM NIGHT at the CHAPEL! 🦇

A silent masterpiece with live score by Chris Green.

Made in the immediate aftermath of the First World War, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) is the quintessential German Expressionist film masterpiece. Robert Wiene’s distorted sets, sinister shadows and unnerving characters creating a paranoid, unreal world at a time of despair throughout Europe.

At a local carnival in a small German town, hypnotist Dr. Caligari presents the somnambulist Cesare, who can purportedly predict the future of curious fairgoers. But at night, the doctor wakes Cesare from his sleep to enact his evil bidding…

Chris Green’s new score is a haunting blend of electronic and acoustic instruments performed live by the composer in our 19th century chapel.

We are delighted to welcome back the artist Eleri Mills after her highly successful solo exhibition here in 2023.
This is a unique opportunity to see three of her most recent large scale works on display together for the first time.

Celia Pym has been exploring mending since 2007 with extensive experience of small everyday holes, at heels, elbows, in pockets as well as working on more dramatic damage.

Celia lives and works in London. She was awarded the NOW Gallery Fashion Commission 2024 and made SOCKS: the art of care and repair (2024-25) were she taught a whole primary school community to darn socks. Other exhibitions include Bags (2024) Hweg; Blankets (2024) Salgshallen Galleri; Cheongju Craft Biennale (2023) Cheongju, Korea; ‘Connect. Reveal. Conceal’. Make Hauser & Wirth, London, UK (2023) and Threads: Breathing stories into materials, Arnolfini, Bristol, UK (2023). Pym is an Associate Lecturer in Textiles at the Royal College of Art and published her first book, ‘On Mending: Stories of Damage and Repair’ in 2023.

A little about William Brown…

Born in Toronto in 1953, William Brown came to the UK in his early twenties and moved to Wales in 1990, where he became a catalyst for the arts and developed as a significant painter through major exhibitions at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and Newport Museum and Art Gallery.

William Brown’s paintings and prints are alive with strange narratives and colourful imagery, tackling arctic exploration, climate change, the landscapes of North Africa, the beasts of the Canadian wild and myths and traditions from the French-Canadian werewolf loup garou to the Welsh Mari Lwyd.

He began his relationship with The Art Shop shortly before he died in 2008, and it continues to represent his estate.
