Now selling from my floating pop up shop on Narrow Boat "The Last Dream" follow to find out where we are. Hi, my name is Andie and I love to carve. I'd like to share with you the story of how I began carving. How I started carving....
The dolphins on my fb page cover are an central to my story....
Dolphins are my power animal (I only learned this recently but have loved dolphins since I was a chil
d), I used to collect all sorts of dolphin paraphernalia, growing up. Back in 1994 my amazing Grandad carved dolphins for my wedding bouquets. One of my little bridesmaids contacted me in 2016 (I think) to ask me where I got my dolphins from as she was to be married, remembered the dolphin from her bridesmaid hoop and wanted to do similar at her wedding. I informed her that my Grandad carved them and although he was still alive and well at the time he was in his 90s and no longer had the dexterity to carve dolphins (nor could he remember having carved them for me). I knew I would be attending the Wood fest in St Asaph that summer and suggested I might find someone there who could do this for her. At the Wood fest I searched the stalls and demonstrations with the dolphins in mind. I came across Caerwys Carving club and as I began to explain what I was looking for I noticed their flyers inviting people to join. I said to the lovely lady I was talking to, "you know, I think I'll join and have a go at carving them myself". I discovered a natural affinity for working with wood, intuitively knowing how to reveal the 3D shapes hidden within. I became captivated and created the four dolphins featured on my cover, along with an additional one when my original bridal dolphins were missing, for the bride's 'something old.'
The subsequent project was a bespoke love spoon for my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary. I naturally added a modern twist to an endearing Welsh tradition when designing their spoon and this became my speciality.
