The Valleys Yarnhouse is a destination yarn-store, community space and knitting resource within the Welsh Valleys. A not for profit company

We are a family owned, small yarn-producer and yarn stockist in the Welsh Valleys. We run the Yarnhouse as a community focused space for people to join us and knit, crochet and enjoy time spent with yarn.

🎃 On this most spectral of nights, the doors of The Yarnhouse, Abertillery, stand open! For the Jumper, and Murder and Book Club fans.

Come ye ghouls and ghosts, vampires, devils and dark sheep! All are welcome, for our yarn is enchanting, our stories spellbinding, and every soul here is a friend.

By flickering candlelight, we gather to read of Y Ddafad Dywyll, the Dark Sheep, as shadows dance and the night draws near.

And when dawn breaks over the valley, we shall vanish into the morning with light hearts and goodwill for all.

For tonight, all are welcome at The Yarnhouse… even the creatures of the night. 🕯️

An update from The Valleys Yarnhouse

We are a welcoming and friendly space for all. Which means inclusion must be reflected in our actions. For sometime we have been reducing the amount of unethical yarn in stock, as we learn more about its sources and as of today we will no longer the stock large yarn company DMC’s brands including, Rowan, Sirdar, Patons or Wool and the Gang due to their collaborations with people who support and profit from hatred and transphobia.

We are committed to being a safe, welcoming space for all, and ensuring our commercial choices reflect our values and support our community groups.

We will continue to stock all our Welsh wools alongside our lion brand range of non-wool yarns.

We hope our fellow yarn crafters will stand with us in solidarity of human rights for all.

Our friends over at the Museum of Wool have a great talk coming up:

Explore the history of one of Wales’s most distinctive blanket designs through a fascinating hands-on session.

Join Senior Curator, Debby Mercer, to discover the sheep and wool industry in Wales and explore woollen objects from the Museum’s collection, including an original Double Castle blanket. Through close observation and discussion, you’ll learn how a design develops over time and how curators use objects as evidence to uncover stories about materials, production and changing tastes.

Shamae! We’ve got more of our ‘Draig’ books in stock online. Including the poetry book of winter and Christmas poems. We’re setting up our new workshop space so we will be opening that for new workshops very soon!
