Happy first of 2026!

November saw us update a customers open fireplace in Oxford.

With the expansion of Oxford's smoke control zone we were asked to remove their environmentally unsound open fire with a more efficient gas fire whilst also modernising the fireplace itself.

The fire we installed was an Orbis HE with remote control by Verine Gas Fires and the surround was the Belmonte by Capital Fireplaces Ltd in Portuguese limestone.

We asked Capital to customise the size of the hearth so that it would cover the gap left in the floor once the old one was removed.

October saw us undertake this two day installation of the impressive Halo Radial woodburning stove by hunterstovesgroup

This 4.9kW stove looks perfect sat in the corner of the room sat on top of a hard wearing honed granite quadrant hearth by Worcestershire Marble

We protected the walls using two heatshields by Midtec and, as there was no chimney, we also installed an all black twin wall flue system by Poujoulat UK.

A customer wanted to replace and old electric wall inset fire with something new.

The saw the DLX 600 by Celsi Electric Fires - British Fire Manufacturers on display in our showroom.

Though not used as a primary source of heating, this electric fire with its amazing combination of moving flames and lit fuel bed adds an impression of warmth and coziness where it was needed.

A customer came to us with a small fireplace and an inefficient open fire.

Though the room wasn’t very large, it was a converted outbuilding and so was the coldest in the house.

They wanted a stove but without all of the mess involved in opening up the space. They also mentioned that the wanted something to give the appearance of a freestanding stove.

We quoted for, and installed to excellent Rosedale by Town and country fires with some honed granite slips to protect the wall from the heat.

This 5kW multifuel stove is fully DEFRA approved for use in smoke control zones and has a 5/5 rating with ClearSkies so you know it will be as environmentally friendly and as efficient as possible.

It also comes with the option of a bowed or flat door, and brass or stainless steel handle.

Another job finished in November.

This customer had an old outset hang on the wall gas fire that needed replacing. They were worried about damaging the brick facade and also wanted to avoid the need for a hearth.

Enter the Ascencio by BFM Europe Ltd - British Fire Manufacturers. This 4kW inset has fire was just the right size to need very minimal alterations to the opening. The bottom to the gas engine also sat more the 225mm off of the floor so we could install with no hearth.

In November, we replaced a customers old outset gas fire with a sleeker Quasar HE by BFM Europe Ltd - British Fire Manufacturers. We used slate slips to reduce the opening size and compliment the existing hearth.

The black nickel and black signature facia they chose means that the fireplace isn’t muddied up with lots of colours giving a cleaner, more modern feel.

A simple changeover for today’s post.

Here we were tasked with modernising a fireplace that the homeowner felt had become slightly dated.

They chose the very robust looking Windsor surround by Worcestershire Marble, in Capri limestone and customised with honed granite slips to edge the opening and hearth. Granite is perfect to sit under and in front of solid fuel fires as it doesn’t stain if ash is dropped on to it and is hard wearing.

A couple of weeks ago we replaced a very inefficient gas basket fire with something designed to actually produce some heat.

Capital Fireplaces Ltd supplied the Avebury gas stove, a 54” Silsoe mantel in the very clean Aegean limestone and the chamber inside which the customer to have in the Urban Dusk finish.

The hearths were supplied by Worcestershire Marble in polished granite.

Another customer who recently had us replace a gas fire that had stopped working. With parts no longer available, and heat not being an important factor, they decided that an electric option would be most cost effective.

They chose the Desire semi-inset electric stove by Be Modern Fires & Fireplaces. This fire gives the impression of a stove without needing the large opening that others require.

The original gas fire, however, was wider than than the new fire and so we covered this extra gap with some Fiorito Bianco marble slips by Worcestershire Marble

A while ago, we had someone come to see us with a gas fire that no longer worked and a fireplace that was of a fairly unique design.

The client wanted to keep the fireplace and replace the fire itself with something similar but slightly more contemporary, though the most important factor was that it worked.

Unfortunately we discovered that their pre-cast had lost its integrity meaning it was no longer usable without some very expensive rebuilding work, something beyond our services and far outside the allotted budget.

An electric fire was ruled out as the area area has been prone to power cuts.

This is where the range of flueless gas fires by burleyfires came in. Using a filter, these low output gas fires do not require any flue and so the Harringworth from this range allowed the customer to once again have a working fireplace.
