Finally got around to finishing this sculpture started it about 15 years ago.  It’s spent a long time waiting this one is going to be sold hopefully eventually at the right price it’s Irish Bogwood in a limewood base. The Bogwood itself is thousands of years old it’s abstract but it is a brass instrument called B flat that’s what it’s based on and you can see the three fingers over three valves although the valves are sort of imaginary but that’s what it’s meant to be. Some people see other things in it.

I had my assistant Russ draw up this plan of the boat frame that the plank might have come from and this might be why the boat sank ! Well done Russ !

Ok , so I might be obsessed with finding out about this plank , but , it’s outside my kitchen window and as I ponder it over my morning tea it gets me thinking, now the holes and there positions have made me think about the frame that they were connected too and I realise that it is more likely to be a boat. So I’m going draw what the frame might look like in the hope of it shedding light on its origin . I’ll share this shortly with those who are still awake or vaguely interested!

Could this old plank be part of a pier and not from a ship?

There’s some nice features to the wood that I fetched out the sand yesterday, I’m wondering if it is a decking plank from a ship as on one side the edges are shaped, as you can see that’s the side where coach bolts went in . Any thoughts?

On the beach today I saw this piece of driftwood sticking out of the sand, it was revealed by a recent storm and was probably buried for a long time. There was no way it was coming out with out a fight so I went home to get a spade . After much digging I finally got this seventeen and half long complete ships deck plank free . Getting it across the beach to the car park was going to be a challenge as it was obviously water logged and too heavy to pick up. I tied a strap to it and tried dragging it , I realised I wasn’t going to get it all the way back , but a passing dog walker kindly offered to lend a hand . So I got it back to my car and on to the roof rack which almost broke under the weight, drove home at 20 mph and got into my yard. I just have to wait five or six months now for it dry out ! Plenty of time to decide what I will turn it into.

So I’ve added the black dots which make it a lot better, definitely finished now and tomorrow it goes to its owner.
