It is with a heavy heart that we write to let you know that Notes of Northumberland is officially no longer trading. While our visitor centre, factory and cafe in Alnwick are in the process of being closed down we are hoping to secure a buyer for the Notes of Northumberland brand so that a new owner can produce the same quality products and beautiful fragrances that you all know and love.

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your custom and loyalty for the last 7 years. We have loved seeing the brand develop from our kitchen table to what it is today and that wouldnt have been possible without your continued support.

It’s been a crafty sort of day here at Notes of Northumberland with lots candle-making.

Don’t forget you can now walk in and do a number of activities including making your very own Notes of Northumberland full size candle.

Activities start from £6.50.

Walk-ins do not include refreshments but our cafe will be open so you can purchase separately. To take advantage of our activity, drink and cake for £8.50 please book in advance.

I’m delighted that our outside seating area is finally open 🎉👏🏻🍾

Just in time for what’s forecasted to be a scorcher of a weekend.

A huge thank you to my very clever dad who has dedicated the last few weeks to making our amazing picnic benches. The whole thing has turned out better than we ever expected.

We are open tomorrow from 9.30am and 7 days a week going forward, serving local produce, brunch, lunch and a selection of homemade cakes and bakes 🥪🍳☕️🍰

Our children’s summer activities at our Candle Bar are suitable for children and teens all ages, there is no minimum or maximum age, as long as you can hold a paintbrush you can join in.

The level of detail in the finished product will very much vary with the individual but you will all have fun.

We are delighted with how well our newest fragrance “The Northumbrian” has done in the month since launch that we are running a GIVEAWAY to say thanks to our customers.

For every £10 you spend online or in store before 6th August you will receive an entry into a draw to win The Northumbrian Gift Set containing a full size candle, reed diffuser, car diffuser and some wax melts.

Lots of questions about our afternoon teas with Candle-making so hope to help a bit.

Afternoon tea can be booked on its own at a cost of £20 per person.

Afternoon Tea with Candle-Making is £40 per person and includes the afternoon tea and Candle-Making at our new candle bar.

Candle-Making does not include the full class that is included in a Beginners Candle-Making Workshop, it is more of a fun craft activity.

You will choose your own vessel from our range of colours, select a fragrance from our Northumbrian Inspired Fragrance. Assemble your wick and place it in your chosen vessel. Mix your wax and fragrance and add colour if required and then pour your candle.

Once your candle is poured you can head over to your table at the cafe where you will be served your afternoon tea. The tea is a selection of sweet and savoury treats, homemade by our chef. Wash this down with locally produced drinks, choose between Bari Tea and Pilgrims Coffee.

Once you have finished your tea head back over to the candle bar where you can trim your candle wick and apply its lid ready to take home with you.

Your candle will be a large candle and will contain 300g of wax and will burn for around 50 hours.

Sessions must be booked no later than 48 hours in advance, spaces are very limited so book soon to avoid disappointment.

Payment is required at time of booking. Bookings can be cancelled or changed up to 48 hours before your session.

Book Candle Making and Soap Making Workshops in our Self Contained Workshop in Alnwick

We have put together a range of activities to keep your little ones entertained this summer without blowing the holiday budget. Select your candle themed activity (activities can take from 10 to 30 minutes depending how much detail your child would like to add). Once finished your child can go to our cafe and enjoy refreshments and with the weather on side a play in our new play park.

Choose from:

Make a Rolled Candle (£8.50) - Make your very own candle without the heat of melting wax. Take a sheet of beeswax in a colour of your choice, roll the wick into the beeswax and continue rolling until until a candle is formed. Cut shapes from wax sheets, or use candle pens to decorate your candle.

Make a Moulded Candle (£8.50) - Another method of making your very own candle without the heat is to use our moulding wax. The wax can me softened in a childs hand and formed around a wick. The wax comes in different colours so the shape of the candle is limited only by your childs own imagination.

Candle Painting (£8.50) - Take a white pillar candle (6cm wide by 12cm tall) and using the wax from melted coloured tealights add decoration to the candle. Designs can be added with molten wax, shapes cut out of wax sheets and attached and glitter or sequins can be attached with clear wax to make a your very own masterpiece.

Tealight Holder Painting (£12.50) - Choose your tea light holder from our summer themed beach hut or lighthouse and use our special porcelain paints to add your own design. Your child can then pour 2 un-fragranced tealights in a colour of their choice to take home.

All of the above activities include refreshments for your child in our cafe. Choose a drink and a snack from:

Drink: Small Milkshake, Fruit Shoot or Fruit Juice Carton Snack: Childs Homemade Cupcake or Cookie or a packet of crisps.

Spaces are limited so book ahead to avoid disappointment.
