My professional life has centred around engineering design in the petrochemical and allied industries. Consequently, design and graphics has always been about precision, accuracy, straight lines, and strict parameters. My career commenced with the drawing board using ink on linen, then plastic lead on film and latterly using computer aided design and drafting and 3-D modelling. I discovered the en

joyment of sketching and the looseness, freedom and pleasure it brings. This, combined with aspects of my engineering background, my eye for detail and a long-standing interest in architecture and buildings leads me to create my sketches.

I was pleased this week to hand over my sketch of The Angel to Yvonne, the landlady, who was very pleased with my artwork.

It was an interesting sketch and fun to do. The Angel is the oldest building in Andover and has some amazing architectural features and history. I will sketch other aspects of the pub during the year.

The Angel, Andover

The oldest building in Andover, built around 1445. Many historical figures have stayed there including King John, Edward I, Edward II, Henry VII, Catherine of Aragon and James II.

A fine art giclée print of my original marker and ink sketch.

Such a quirky building. I have eaten several times at this well-known local landmark. It is almost as tiny inside as it appears to be from the outside….and the food is lovely.

The Archway to St. Mary’s Churchyard, Andover

The archway was originally the west doorway to the medieval church built circa 1150 and demolished in 1840. It was relocated to its present position around 1845 and is all that remains of the original church.
